The song originated in the Peninsular War.
It has been recorded by men from The Rifles, currently serving in Afghanistan.
The brief part that I heard seemed to owe much to the John Tams version.
Tams did it for the series of Sharpe programmes. Sharpe was a fictional Rifleman of that era.
I wish them all success.

Available for download on http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/. Can't help but be moved by the images accompanying the song. Saw John Tams last night at Derby Uni. in 'an evening with John Tams'. Haven't had such a good night out in ages.

Thanks Olga.
I see that it is sung by John Tams, with the bugles and band of The Rifles.

No a big fan of facebook, but these real heroes are causing quite a stir with this superb collaboration with my John Tams.
