Hello there,

I thought you might like to know that there promises to be a wee clip from our weekly Session in the Springhill Bar, Portrush, Co Antrim, at the end of the show, tomorrow morning.

Country Tracks ~ Dec. 13th

Cheers
Dick

Well, if you missed it, you can catch it again on Thursday afternoon at 02.50pm on BBC1.

After that, you may be even be able to watch it on the BBC 1 iPlayer

I'm delighted to say that the last 10 minutes or so, featured our weekly Springhill Bar Session in Portrush alright.

In the session, you saw a touch of the Scottish influence on the music in this part of the world, with instruments like the Scottish Smallpipes {Ian Kinnear's} & English Concertina, as well as the more usual Fiddles, Melodeon, Bouzouki, Uilleann Pipes, Harp, & Bodhran

I'm not sure though, if I'll ever recover from the shame of being 'OUTED' on national TV, as a closet Bodhran Player!

... Oh & I'll probably have to steer well clear of Swedish Fiddle players for a while! ;-)

Cheers
Dick

I, myself, prefer singaround/playarounds, but thought it gave a wider audience a good sample of folk music sessions.

That's a new one on me .... what exactly is a singaround/playaround?

Not being a session player, it was an interesting part of the programme. Learnt a few things, nicely explained by the gentleman in the clips. Thanks.

P.: "Singaround/Playaround" - take turns at singing a song and/or playing a tune.

That was No Gentleman Fence ... that was just me! ;-)

Ah I see, WV.
Sounds a bit more like a Folk Club, except I guess that everyone takes a turn.

I suppose that'd be easier on the fingers, & I have been to a few evenings like that, but I must admit, I do prefer the session format, cause it means, rather than sitting quiet & just listening for most of the evening, I get to play all night.

Cheers
Dick
