Subject: John Tams Hope For Heroes Christmas CD From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 13 Dec 09 - 11:51 AM Just in case you haven't heard Mr Tams has just released "Love Farewell" as a CD single, with a military band made up from the Rifles and Bugles. c/w "Over the Hills and Far Away" from the Sharpe series. All proceeds go to the "Hope For Heroes" charity here in the UK which supports returning soldiers from the various war zones, who are damaged either physically or mentally. Just google Hope For Heroes, and you can either download the track, or buy the CD. A very worthwhile cause, and a lovely song as well. (Better than the mawkish cack that normally comes out at Christmas, and if we can keep the dreadful X factor song from topping the charts, so much the better!) Buy one for yourself, and more copies for your friends. |

Subject: RE: John Tams Hope For Heroes Christmas CD From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 13 Dec 09 - 01:26 PM Damn....Sorry for the typo!! And thanks for the link gnomad! Maybe a Kind Elf can correct the spelling in the header, If they're not too busy!! |
Subject: RE: John Tams Hope For Heroes Christmas CD From: stallion Date: 13 Dec 09 - 02:08 PM I heard snippets of it this am on radio 4, a good song didn't know it was john Tams singing it. |
Subject: RE: John Tams Hope For Heroes Christmas CD From: Surreysinger Date: 13 Dec 09 - 02:31 PM Maybe a kind elf could link this to the other thread on the subject which was started yesterday here I would suggest, though, that Ralphie's heading should be maintained as Keith's doesn't make it clear what the whole content of the thread is about?? |
Subject: RE: John Tams Hope For Heroes Christmas CD From: Surreysinger Date: 13 Dec 09 - 02:35 PM And I might add that the track in question comes in tandem with "Over the Hills" and only costs a £1 for the two. I listened to the new fashioning, mulled over the fact that the song has been used since the Peninsular Wars, and that very little has changed ... and found myself in tears. (And also heard from another friend that he had done exactly the same) The reworking of this song (which Mr Tams sang over some of the action in one of the episodes of Sharpe) has been beautifully arranged ... as Ralphie pointed out (I think) - well worth buying. And 100% of the purchase proceeds go to the charity in question. |
Subject: RE: John Tams Hope For Heroes Christmas CD From: Surreysinger Date: 13 Dec 09 - 02:37 PM Damn ,now I've done it - repeated some of what Ralphie had already said as a result of not checking back. Still, probably worth repeating (I hope). Go buy! |
Subject: RE: John Tams Hope For Heroes Christmas CD From: GUEST,Hantslad Date: 13 Dec 09 - 04:09 PM Love Farwell Facebook link Found this link which takes you to the threads on the facebook site. John Tams' vocals really bring the emotion of the song out and in support of these brave soldiers I must say I think it is a tremendously worthwhile cause - I wish them all the very best. |
Subject: RE: John Tams Hope For Heroes Christmas CD From: GUEST,Jan L Date: 13 Dec 09 - 06:21 PM Go and buy this is fab - we bought it this morning and cannot stop playing it!! As fans of John, Sharpe and Hope for Heroes As said earlier help get this to the top and make and make it a Christmas number 1 Happy Christmas everyone |
Subject: RE: John Tams Hope For Heroes Christmas CD From: Surreysinger Date: 13 Dec 09 - 07:46 PM Typos galore !! Looks as though this topic attracts them [grin]. Should be HELP for heroes (see above), and Love FAREWELL .... all of which allows me to bump the topic up again ;-) Go buy it... it's a very moving arrangement (reduced me to tears at least twice today) and all for a good cause. |
Subject: RE: John Tams Hope For Heroes Christmas CD From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 14 Dec 09 - 12:30 AM On consideration, I doubt that the JT song has any chance of toppling the Cowell "Nerd Factor" record this Christmas. Bet your bottom dollar, he had all the retail outlets covered months ago. (Tesco, Lidl, Morrisons, Woolworths etc. ...did I say Woolworths?!!), and when the result of the show came in the other night, just cranked up the production plant. I bet, if you go to any supermarket today it'll be on prominant display in the CD dept!. Compare that to Love Farewell, No record label, No distribution (as far as I know), very little marketing budget. (Obviously trying to make as much for the charity as possible). Realistically, it doesn't stand a chance. Still, no reason not to go and but multiple copies as stocking fillers for your friends and families, is there? As has been said, it's a cracking song, with a history that goes back to a war long ago, which gives it a huge resonance for me, without being mawkish. Shame you can't beat the men with the money though. 'Twas ever thus I suppose. Ralphie |
Subject: RE: John Tams Hope For Heroes Christmas CD From: manitas_at_work Date: 14 Dec 09 - 08:50 AM Just to point out that 'Over the Hills' dates back even earlier to Queen Anne's wars and was used in Gay's 'Beggars's Opera'. |
Subject: RE: John Tams Hope For Heroes Christmas CD From: OlgaJ Date: 14 Dec 09 - 10:22 AM Brilliant arrangement of this timeless song. It means as much today as it did when it was written. The video images on the web site http://www.helpforheroes.org.uk/ make it even more moving. It has certainly brought a tear to my eye. I hope it makes lots of money for a worthwhile charity. |
