Subject: Lyr Add: GOLDEN JUBILEE / OLD MAID IN A GARRET
From: MudGuard
Date: 28 Jul 99 - 03:01 AM

I have a recording of a similar song (sung by The Flying Column).
It is a mixture of Golden Jubilee and Old Maid In A Garret.
There are a few spots where I could not make out the lyrics from listening to the song, these are marked in red

GOLDEN JUBILEE / OLD MAID IN A GARRET

Way down in the county Kerry in a place they call Tralee
A fine old couple they lived there named Kate and Pat MacGee
They were going to give a party on their golden jubilee
Kate says she to Pat MacGee, come listen here to me

Chorus 1

Oh, put on your old knee britches and your coat of emerald green
Take off this hat, my darling, pal, put on your old (corbeen ???)
For there's a golden wedding and I want them all to know,
How we looked when we were wed fifty years ago.
Oh why, I've often heard it said from my father and my mother
Going to the wedding is the making of another
If it be so, I will go without a bidding
Oh it's fine providence, take me to the wedding

Chorus 2

And its oh dear me, how would it be,
If I die an old maid in the garret
How well do I remember when first I was your bride
The little chapel on yonder hill, how we stood side by side
Your hair was like a raven's wing, now it's turning grey
Patsy dear, come on and hear, what I am going to say

Chorus 1

Oh I'm away home, there is nobody heeding
Nobody heeding, to poor (Annie's creeding ???)
I'm away hung to my own wee garret
If I can't get a man, I'll bloody have a parrot

Chorus 2

How well do I remember when we danced on the village green
You held me in your arms dear Pat, and called me a colleen
(Footbends ???) we've had many, troubles we've had few
Sweetheart dear, come on and hear what I'm gonna tell to you

Chorus 1

Here are the last two verses. Hope they're what you need.

Oh, well do I remember how we danced on the village green.
You held me in your arms, dear Pat, and called me your cailin.
Your hair was like a raven's wing but now it's turning grey.
Come over here, ould sweetheart dear, and hear what I've to say...

Repeat chorus.

And well do I remember when first I was your bride,
In the little chapel on the hill where we stood side by side.
Of good friends we've had many; of troubles we've had few.
Come over here, ould sweetheart dear, and here's what you must do...

Repeat chorus.

Way down in the Coun-ty Ker-ry in a place they call Tra-lee,
A - fine old coup-le they lived ther - Kate and Pat Ma-gee,
They were go-ing to have a par-ty on their Gold-en Ju-bil-ee,
Now - Kate says she to Pat Ma-Gee come and lis-ten here to me.

(Chorus)Put on yo-ur old knee britch-es and your coat of Em-rald green,
Ta-ke off that hat me dar-lin' Pat, Put on your ould cai-bin,
Fo-r to-day's our Gold-en Wed-ding and I'll have you all to know,
Ju-st how we looked when we were wed so-me fif-ty years a-go.
