The annual December shanty/forebitter/ballad/seasonal song session will be happening at the Press Room in Portsmouth NH this Saturday,19 December from 3:30 to 7:30 PM.

I still don't have a voice, but it will return, and for now I have a concertina and a thirst which can be slaked more than previously.

And for future reference, mark your calendars for the Barry Finn Memorial Session on the third Saturday in June. Since I am writing from the famed West End of Boston, I have not the werewithal to give you a specific date yet.

See you Saturday. Wassail - Tom

Looks like the Barry Finn Memorial Session will be June 19th then. Wonder if I might manage that one?

Sinsull et al-

There were survivors, other than us, I'm sure but we're buried by Christmas responsibilities, including finishing up someone else's CD.

There were about a dozen singers, including Justine, Peter and Joanne, Tom & Linn, Jeri, Marty, Mark, Chris, Jeff & Barbara, Deb Cowan, Judy and myself. Who did I miss?

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Let's see, now that there's a break in Christmas chaos, I led the following songs:

Outside track, Chanty for Steam, Mobile Bay, West Indies Blues, Evening Shadows Fall, Laying on the Screw

Judy: Outward Bound by C. Fox Smith

Deb Cowan: Sam's Gone Away, and several others earlier

Peter S.: One More Day, Rolling Down the River, Old Bangan Hunting, Rain,Cutty Wren, Sailor's Prayer, and one other

Joanne S.: Joanna's Rowing, Frozen in Froberger's Bay, Our Boats are in the Harbor, Catch & Release

Marty: Wasail, Wasail, I'm A Lumberjack, Another Wassail Song, Rosabella, Gift to be Simple/Lord of the Dance, and another one or two

Mark: at least two songs before he had to leave

Justine: What Would We Do If We Had No Money, and an earlier one

Chris: I'm a River Driver, Strike the Bell, Maui, Help Us to Raise 'Em, Greenland Whaling Song, and a couple of earlier ones

Tom & Linn: Holly is the Berry; Shopping Shanty by Brian Chadbourn, and a couple of others

Jeff: Go to Sea Once More, Ida Red, Morris Dance Tune, Jolly Wassail

Jeff and Barb: Row On

I wasn't taking notes early in the session but Judy was later on.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

I've got notes from the entire session, though I missed one or two when I was paying for my chowder and filling Jeff Murdock in on what's going on with Tom's treatment.

No time to post now, but I'll add a complete list at some point.

Thanks, Charley!

Linn

(raising her head from too much activity of a non-singing sort in Ithaca NY)
Sounds like a great session. I wish I could be with you all again. I've got the third Saturday in June down in my calendar and hope to join you in singing for/with Barry's spirit.

Love and joy to you, and jolly wassail too!

-Pamela

I don't know if anyone has realized this is an addendum to a 2009 session. I'll be posting song lists for more antique threads over the next week or so.
