Subject: Lyr Add: JOHN BROWN'S DANCE (Jed Marum) From: AnneMC Date: 21 Dec 09 - 02:31 AM I guess you are looking for the lyrics to 'John Brown's March' by Jed Marum, which is a superb song. My husband does it at the folk club, just plays claw hammer on the banjo as accompaniment, first song he has sung solely with a banjo backing but it sounds awesome. Jed has done so many wonderful songs - look up his web site: http://www.jedmarum.com/ John Brown's March (words as sent to me by Jed Marum) At Charlestown now and on this December morn The gatherin' crowd neither weep nor mourn A rousing cheer among the fanfare born As you come to the end of the line The snares drums rollin' while the piper plays It's time to pay for your murderous ways Your treachorous trading in your traitorous days You've come to the end of the line Ol' John Brown, the sun is pourin' down You're gonna see the hangman marchin' through the town Feet in the air and the world is spinnin' round When you dance on the end of the line The Shenandoah round your gallows flow Gentle winds on Virginia blow Your lifeless body swinging to and fro Now you've come to the end of the line Three cheers for justice and the Lord be praised With John Brown mouldering' in his grave The free, the honest and the righteous saved He's come to the end of the line |
Subject: Lyr Add: COME BACK KATY (Jed Marum) From: JedMarum Date: 21 Dec 09 - 08:54 AM COME BACK KATY © Jed Marum, 2005 Come back Katy, Kevin Benjamin and Brady And the boys from Alabama Know you're looking for a Mister Better run and tell your sister But don't you tell your Mama You know they look so fine When they're marchin's in a line And they dance even finer Then the boys of Carolina Come back Katy get your best dress on The 'bama boys in town Come back Katy, Kevin Benjamin and Brady Setting out on my veranda Play the Shamrock and the Thistle And the y play on the whistle To the fiddle and the banjer Gonna make some noise With the Alabama boys Gonna dance 'til the morrow Like we never had a sorrow Come back Katy get your best dress on The 'bama boys in town Come back Katy, Kevin Benjamin and Brady And the Alabama Wild Geese They were born in Connemara But they're leavin' town And they're gonna fight the Yankees Gonna dance and sing Make the whole town ring Make a racket and a rattle 'fore we send 'em off to battle Come back Katy get your best dress on The 'bama boys in town |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Jed Marum's John Brown and Come Back Kat From: JedMarum Date: 21 Dec 09 - 08:58 AM Thanks for the request! And thanks for the kid words. "John Brown's Dance" is what I call my song, and it is sung to a traditional fiddle called, John Brown's March. I altered the melodoy just a bit ... Katy is wholly original. I should have the all up on-line, and have started a project to post lyrics ... just never got back to it. |
