I can better tolerate a poorly intoned amateur sessions singer with a good natural sense of rhythmic dynamic tension than an accurately spot on tune singer with even less sense of musical timing than a neatly hung washing line of stiffly starched hernia support pants.. please discuss ? |

Yeah, if a singer really can't carry a tune, it's not pleasant to listen to, but in group singing, a few people being off-key isn't always that noticeable. But in a sing-along or jam, it's really annoying when people have no idea when to come in on the next line. etc. Even when just listening, it's hard for me to really enjoy a soloist with no sense of the rhythm of a song. "Lyrical" singing, with an irregular rhythm is fine. But when it seems obvious that the intent is to be rhythmical but the beat keeps getting lost, it's really hard to "get into" the song. I think a lot of jams and sing-alongs could do with a good bass player or strong rhythm guitar or a drummer. LOL |
