I didn't want to see this fade too fast... not so much for my sake but in recognition of the really fine musicians who have played a large role in bringing high quality to the 2 new CDs... I'd be remiss not to mention a few of their names on this site..

JT Oglesby,
Quentin Meek,
Bobby Lalonde
Eddie Reid
Monique Fauteaux
Bob Stagg
Hugo St-Cyr
Clement Rosa
Audrey Bankley
Michel Dion
Peter Skelton
Mousee Edmead
Fern Martel
Simon Jodoin
Ben Laskowski
Barney Beninger
Rabid Cabbage Landon
Johnny Keyes

and of course the inspiration of the 'elders' at the Cafe, esp Bruce Murdoch who showed me, years ago, what a well written song was all about

thanks all... bonne annee...... Ron

I have to check my myspace more. I am never on there anymore. The Colorado thing uhm is a no haha but thanks. The next time you are here man we will run over and I will take you to Mose's daughter's house and you cn check that guitar out. I am on a different computer today and can actually read the posts. I am hanging out with my sons and taking it easy today. For Christmas eve it is kind of strange. The first time in years I haven't been running my butt off but I am kind of enjoying it. It is suppose to be like 57 degrees today so I think I may get the boys out and do something since it is not too cold. Anyway I hope everyone on here has a great Christmas. I am going to start using this computer as much as I can since I can read the posts. I hopefully will be back on here more. I found an old fiddler through a friend the other day. My friend borrowed my recorder and recorded alot of old trad songs and stories by him. This man's grandfather was a fiddle player that fought in the Civil War and the man (I can't remember his name) played songs that was passed down from his grandfather to his father and then to him. He also told stories about growing up here in Western Ky. I haven't heard it yet bc I have been busy with Christmas and all but can't wait. I thought some of you on here may find that interesting. I have been trying to record as many of the old musicians that play trad and know the old songs as I can before it is too late. Well I am going to jump off here.
cya

I'll be in touch soon.. see you this spring... R.

I am having trouble seeing the posts so I am writing this half blind. Thanks for all the comments. I love the CD and I am SUPER critical of anything I am on. I mean it I cannot stand to listen to hardly anything I have played on but I LOVE this CD. I cannot describe how happy I am to be able to put out a CD with my brother Ron. He is truly a soul brother to me to the bone. I have listened to it a million times and still love it. The Thunder Thieves is a project that was born in the souls of two brothers. It started here in Ky and we finished it in Canada but the distance was not enough to break the bond Ron and I developed. Ron is truly a brother and a VERY creative musician. I am honored to have him as a brother and have a CD out with him. I am going to be on MC as much as I can but I am having trouble reading the posts. The are not there until I click blindly and then the whole post doesnt show. I can't see who posted what or anything like that. Anyway I hope to have that worked out before long. I hope everyone enjoys the CD as much as I have enjoyed working with Ron on it. Thank ya'll for the cool words at least the ones I could read haha. Cya later. JT

"Soup Kitchens on Christmas", is that your next song Tamarack ?.. kinda Homeless in Bethlehem.. no ?
good on you and Adele..
it's a date, when you can make it over...

I remember playing the old L'Orignal jail ( the oldest working jail in Ontario at the time) on two "Noels" back to back.. well, some well meaning but largley self-serving bureaucrat from Hawkesbury decided to give me a plaque from the Attorney General's Office.. that was around about the next July ! So I didn't show up for that for some reason or other, and she got some vexed.. I thought it was funny.. so the following Christmas day, I go back to play and sing again... they still had the plaque at the jail... just dusted it off, literally, and we had our own little event...no photo-ops or Sandy Hill papparazzi... it was fun...ended up giving the award to Mama.. she was proud... see you soon.. glad you like the songs .. you are all in them somewhere... R

Thanks Dan... it's really an interesting project that started right here at Mudcat, which is where I first hooked up with JT.. one thing did lead to another until we finally got to meet, play, record and generally hang out around Madisonville KY. last April.. There's been 4 or 5 studios involved in the process due to geographical distance... but we got it down to 12 songs.... the main challenge was having it sound consistent throughout, which it does. A lot of credit goes to Quentin Meek, a great engineer/producer and an old friend who I had lost track of for many years. The timing was right... and we invested many hours in the editing/mixing process... anyhow, most of the material was written either in Georgia or Kentucky, but has a different feel than the music down there or north of 49... a hybrid, so to speak , a north wind blowing things in another direction... so we just have to master it in early Jan. then get it out there working for us...

oh yeah, I finished another CD that I've been working on for 3 yrs. called 'Falling Forward' while 'Thunder Thieves' was happening.. so I'll let em out at the same time....
Merry Christmas and all the rest of it
R
