Subject: RE: Obit: Vic Chesnutt (Dec 09) From: GUEST,Spleen Cringe Date: 27 Dec 09 - 01:51 PM Probably about the best singer-songwriter the USA has produced in the past 20 years and a fantastic, engaging and wry live performer. I remember seeing him playing his heart out to an audience of about thirty a dozen or so years back in Manchester - happily taking requests and treating the audience as if it were a full house. A sad loss of a supremely talented man.RIP. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Vic Chesnutt (Dec 09) From: Bobert Date: 27 Dec 09 - 12:41 PM This a bummer on a lot of different levels... His accident when he was 18 that left him paparlyzed... His music... And a sad commentary on our health care system that left him depresssed in not being able to afford the care he needed... Sniff... B~ |
Subject: RE: Obit: Vic Chesnutt (Dec 09) From: Genie Date: 27 Dec 09 - 02:20 AM Very sad indeed. I wasn't that familiar with his songs, at least by his name, but it appears he was critically acclaimed as a country music songwriter, with his lyrics compared to writers like John Steinback. Sad life story, especially for one so prolific, and such a sad end. RIP, Vic. Genie |

Subject: Vic Chesnutt hospitalized From: Mary Katherine Date: 24 Dec 09 - 10:44 PM According to the New York Times: December 24, 2009, 2:20 pm Vic Chesnutt, Singer, Is in a Coma By BEN SISARIO Vic Chesnutt, a singer-songwriter from Athens, Ga., beloved by fans and critics for his disarmingly open songs about mortality and pain, is in a coma, his family has confirmed. They did not say what caused the coma. News about Mr. Chesnutt's condition spread through the Internet on Wednesday through posts on Twitter by the singer Kristin Hersh, who has played with him. Mr. Chesnutt, 45, has been in a wheelchair since a car accident when he was 18, and was discovered in the late 1980s by Michael Stipe of R.E.M., who produced his first two albums. Since then Mr. Chesnutt has released at least a dozen more albums, including two this year, "At the Cut" and "Skitter on Take-Off." In a review of a recent concert in New York, Jon Pareles noted that Mr. Chesnutt's songs contemplate "not just mortality but also the broader inevitability of collapse and decay." |
