Bugger! Sad. He jumped the queue. Lots of Memories from around the London clubs in the early sixties and of later of course. Legend.
Sad day.

Very, very sad, another of my great mentors/inspirations and folk music innovators bites the dust! Only the other evening we were enjoying a performance by a great legacy of Tim's: 'Steeleye Span'- still a fantastic band. It was the final gig of the tour and was just sublime. They spoke of Tim's illness and had been taking collections and dedicating a raffle in his name. But I had no idea he was so close to death's door. Tim was surely one of Folk Music's Blueprints (or originals)and his influence is all over just about everything that has happened in the traditional folk world since. R.I.P. Tim

As Jacqui C said. A friend gave me tapes of his Steeleye LPs to take to college and I was hooked for evermore.

Sleep well.

So sad, and much too young. I'm another who count them as part of my introduction to folk music.

Very sad news. "Gaudete" kicked it all off for me; without Tim & Steeleye I might never have got into folk at all. 60 is too young!

very sad news. I remember Tim and Maddy's joyful singing in Manchester's Free Trade Hall in about 1970 or 71, and when watching them together on the TV in the Electric Proms, October 1998, his voice seemed no different in spite of the passage of time. Condolences to his family.

Oh, no. So sorry to hear this. I've enjoyed his music with Maddy Prior. And I was born in '48, too.

I'm sad to hear this - he and Maddy and the others were the first folk band I heard (and loved). I loved his voice too.

Tim and Maddy once asked me to sing a song I had sung earlier in the evening, instead of their doing the encore they were being asked for.
I was so chuffed, you wouldn't believe it, so not un-naturally I have been a fan ever since.
RIP my friend.

John

"A sad day for those of us who are of the same age."

And for those who are considerably younger. Tim and Maddie's Folk Songs of Olde England was one of my first introductions to English traditional music, though I first heard it at least 20 years after its release, and I still hold it dear. RIP, Tim.

Very sorry to hear this. I first heard Tim and Maddy at C# House in the late 1960s, and at the Goat (and Tim's father christened the son of one of Herga morris who lived in St Albans).

A sad day for those of us who are of the same age. Gone long before his talents could enthuse and inform another emerging new young audience/rising of musicians.

Treasured music captured on vinyl, tape, cd & HD to keep alive the memory.

My condolences to his family, colleagues and friends.

Cancer, I believe. I understand from a friend that he'd been receiving treatment in hospital in the UK, but it seems he died back at his long-time home in the Canary Isles, according to this
