Subject: RE: No stopping 'Van The Man' From: lefthanded guitar Date: 29 Dec 09 - 10:05 AM I gotta admit when I first saw Van in the seventies -and he was a sexy, slender, redheaded young dude with the voice of a soulful angel-I was smitten. Saw him in the nineties, and he'd grown a bit older, but still had that charismatic something. Yeah he's aged a little and gained a little (ah..well he's not alone there) but he's still a stud in my besotted eyes. And apparently I'm not the only one. Congrats Van the man, you're never too old when you're " born before the wind, also younger than the sun. " |

Subject: RE: No stopping 'Van The Man' From: Crow Sister (off with the fairies) Date: 29 Dec 09 - 10:09 AM "Our reproductive systems are just SO sexist! :( " I expect that'll be because Nature thinks kids need Mothers, whereas Fathers are expendable (Van will probably be dead before the child reaches their teens). |

Subject: RE: No stopping 'Van The Man' From: Mick Pearce (MCP) Date: 29 Dec 09 - 11:33 AM bubblyrat - I think Segovia was 76 when he had his child in 1970. He claimed he'd be more famous for that than for playing the guitar. It's also said he had to go back on the road to support it!. Mick |

Subject: RE: No stopping 'Van The Man' From: GUEST,MikeL2 Date: 30 Dec 09 - 11:17 AM hi Mick I saw a program on TV some time ago about Segovia. He did father a child at the age of 70.....but if you think that was impressive; in the same program Andres wanted to have a new guitar.......soooooo they took him to a world famous luthier who took him to a forest and Andres was able to select the tree from which his guitar would be made. Now that IS impressive.......lol cheers Mike |

Subject: RE: No stopping 'Van The Man' From: olddude Date: 31 Dec 09 - 12:29 PM I told this story before but it is well worth repeating. About 15 years ago my family and I toured the plantation owned by the "GRANDSON" of President Tyler born in 1790. Well the tour guide said please be quiet his grandson is elderly and is sleeping ... We said you mean great great grandson ... she said no ... When president Tyler was in his 80's he married a 30 year old and gave birth to the guys father. His father fought in the civil war and had his uniform hanging by the fireplace. His dad then at like 77 married a thirty something and gave birth to him ...Holy Cow. There was a plaque that George Washington gave his Granddad hanging in the office ... Amazing !! Van's got a ways to go to catch up. |
Subject: RE: No stopping 'Van The Man' From: olddude Date: 31 Dec 09 - 12:31 PM By the way Tyler served in the House of Representatives from December 17, 1816, to March 3, 1821. While in Congress, Tyler was a leader in opposing the Missouri Compromise. .. Holy Cow |
Subject: RE: No stopping 'Van The Man' From: Smedley Date: 31 Dec 09 - 12:41 PM Referring back to the question about David Crosby, I'm pretty sure the couple he was sperm-donor for was the singer Melissa Etheridge & her partner. They had twins and all went well. |
Subject: RE: No stopping 'Van The Man' From: Rasener Date: 31 Dec 09 - 01:28 PM What a hoot. ROTFLMAO So he is not a dirty old man after all. Well Van the Man, if you are getting blamed for it, you might as well do it. |
Subject: RE: No stopping 'Van The Man' From: GUEST, Poxicat Date: 31 Dec 09 - 01:55 PM Doing it is one thing. Irresponsibly fathering a child is another. Two words: Charlie Chaplin. |
Subject: RE: No stopping 'Van The Man' From: PoppaGator Date: 31 Dec 09 - 02:13 PM The revelation that this is a hoax, seems to me, is a much bigger and more interesting story than than the putative birth, which would have been interesting if true, but hardly a shock. It's no secret that the human male is physically capable of reproduction well into old(er) age. Any old geezer who is able to attract a younger female might very well become a father, accidentally or otherwise. And among sixty-something aging baby-boomers, who is more apt to hook up with a younger woman than a serious musical artist who is also a rock star? |
Subject: RE: No stopping 'Van The Man' From: GUEST,999 Date: 31 Dec 09 - 11:06 PM I've never liked his work, so really I don't care. However, he said his site was hacked and that this info is wrong. That is, both he and his manager says it's bullshit. FYI. If that's changed I'd like to know. |
Subject: RE: No stopping 'Van The Man' From: GUEST,999 Date: 31 Dec 09 - 11:14 PM Singer Van Morrison denies baby report Thu Dec 31, 4:38 PM DUBLIN/LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Singer Van Morrison on Thursday denied that he had fathered a child with his manager, saying a widely reported statement that appeared on his website three days ago was the result of a hacking attack. Irish state broadcaster RTE published a statement signed by the publicity-shy blues and R&B singer-songwriter that says a birth announcement on his website on Monday was "completely and utterly without foundation." A statement saying that "Gigi and Van Morrison are very proud to announce the birth of their first born son, George Ivan Morrison III," was also distributed to the media by the Belfast-born singer's Los Angeles-based publicist, Phil Lobel. Lobel described Gigi Lee to Reuters on Monday as Morrison's manager and "mother of his child." Morrison, 64, was reported on Thursday as telling a friend he did not even know the name. Lobel said in a statement on Thursday that his office had "passed along information from the official website of Van Morrison, which we are now told had been hacked. All those with Van Morrison regret any confusion this may have caused." Morrison said he had asked his management to investigate the hacking attack, adding that it was the second in three months. Earlier on Thursday, John Saunders, a friend and Dublin-based executive at public relations agency Fleishman-Hillard, said Van Morrison had told him that he did not know Gigi. "He has said to me on the phone today, he has said it's not true," Saunders told Reuters in Dublin. "He has never heard of this person Gigi, the name means nothing to him." Gigi Lee is listed as the executive producer of Morrison's 2009 " 'Astral Weeks' Live at the Hollywood Bowl" concert DVD. The LA Weekly described Lee as being backstage during its May 2009 interview with Morrison, and the British Sunday Times quoted her in a September 2009 story about a forthcoming documentary on Morrison. Morrison said in his statement that he was "very happily married to Michelle Morrison with whom I have two wonderful children." Asked why Morrison had waited several days to deny the baby story, Saunders said that the singer was not good at handling his public relations. "Van is a mystery man in many ways, his fans will testify to that," Saunders told RTE. Morrison, whose 45-year career spans soul, blues, jazz, R&B and country, also has an adult daughter, singer-songwriter Shana Morrison, from his first marriage. Famed for such tunes as "Gloria" and "Brown Eyed Girl," he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 but declined to attend the ceremony.
