Subject: RE: Lorre Wyatt - know his whereabouts? From: Joe Offer Date: 31 Dec 09 - 11:48 AM Is there a recording of Lorre Wyatt singing "Somos el Barco"? I like the Pete Seeger recording, but it would be nice to hear it from the guy who wrote the song. There's an interesting tidbit at snopes.com about Wyatt and a song he didn't write, "Blowin' in the Wind." This page says Wyatt also wrote the lyrics for "Sailing Up...Sailing Down." Reinhard Zierke verifies that. Apparently, Wyatt was part of Pete Seeger's Clearwater Project. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Lorre Wyatt - know his whereabouts? From: GUEST,His former wife Date: 16 Mar 10 - 06:43 PM Yes, Lorre does still live in Greenfield, MA. On his Folk Legacy album Roots and Branches, which was recorded before he'd finished writing the song, there is an interesting and quite lovely version sung and played with Gordon Bok. However lyrics are only the chorus of the song with improvisations. (However the album has other well-known Lorre songs such as Let It Be Your Lullaby. When Pete recorded Somos El Barco he unfortunately left out one of the best verses by mistake. I will find out from Lorre if there is an accessible recorded version of the full song by him. I would advise getting it as his version is better than Pete's. He is by the way an absolutely amazing songwriter and singer who had a stroke that disabled him somewhat and cut short his singing career and self confidence. He still continues to turn out unbelievable songs that go right to the heart, but never gets them out there. I'll get back to you on it. |
Subject: RE: Lorre Wyatt - know his whereabouts? From: GUEST,Pat Lamanna Date: 03 Jul 10 - 10:51 AM Readers may be interested to know that last night at the Beacon Sloop Club, Pete Seeger sang a song he and Lorre co-wrote, which was just beautiful and has a great sing-along chorus. (They also co-wrote "Wonderful Friends," by the way, which is on Pete's "Pete Seeger at 89" album.) Pete said that Lorre had driven down to visit him recently, so he's doing much better than he had been. Later on, during the monthly song circle, someone led us in "Somos el Barco." You can go to www.clearwater.org to buy a CD of the Sloop Singers singing amazing songs, including Lorre singing his "Once a Boat Has Broken From the Shore," and Don McLean's "Tapestry." |

Subject: RE: Lorre Wyatt - know his whereabouts? From: GUEST Date: 17 Mar 13 - 11:20 PM Years ago I found a cassette of Lorre's album "Sprouts" at a flea market in Wilmington, Vermont. Somos el Barco is on that album. It may have been a homemade tape rather than a released album. |

Subject: RE: Lorre Wyatt - know his whereabouts? From: maeve Date: 28 May 13 - 11:19 PM Thomas Stern- I found this in a quick search: "Lorre Wyatt was a member of the Milburnaires, a high school activity folk group. They wore jackets and ties, were all men, and were one of those big groups with about ten members. They even made an album they put of themselves that had "Blowin' In The Wind" on it." http://www.muddywatermagazine.com/Who-wrote-blowin-in-the-wind-not-lorre-wyatt.html |
Subject: RE: Lorre Wyatt - know his whereabouts? From: Thomas Stern Date: 29 May 13 - 01:17 PM Hi Maeve, Thanks for that link. Pretty bizarre! Anyone know if there were any recording prior to this, or any MILLLBURNAIRES after ?? Wyatt made a recent recording with Pete Seeger. Earlier recordings include one album for FOLK-LEGACY, and contributions to CLEARWATER. What others??? Thanks, Thomas. |
