Hi Tom,
I'm sorry for the late reply - I only read your request today. Here's the lyrics you were looking for back then, copied from the album's liner notes. Maybe they're still of use.

Still not the same as what I hear, but the same as in the liner notes:

Another Irish Rover

Words and Music by Kevin Doherty (Four Men & a Dog)
Published by Topic Records Music Ltd.
Album: Shifting Gravel (SPDCD 1047, 1993, (P) & (C) Special Delivery/Topic Records Ltd, (C) 1993 Cross Border Media, (P) 1993 Special Delivery Records Ltd)

Fell in love with my bed it's a place for my head
There's an element of dread it's a palace of wonder
There's a hint of a smile in the nights that are piled
For mile after mile through the heat and the thunder
I look around the room on a cold grey moon
I dream about June and floating with my lady
Now February is here with an element of fear
About the beckoning year and the ifs and maybes

And I have to admit that when it boils down to it
That we all seem to fit in familiar problems
I'm just waiting for the day I can safely say
I got a notion of the way won't you call that progress
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la -----

With a smile and a wind it's all over in a blink
You took me to the brink and you took me over
I just lay there and smiled like a honey fed child
Feeling more than alive another Irish Rover
Or I'm looking at your hands while a Mexican bank
Takes the tears of a man who cried like a fountain
And the dust men curse you know the weather gets worse
They know the dam's gonna burst and the pressure is mounting

And I have to admit -----

You know I hate that street between waking and asleep
Where old ghosts meet and they leave me shaking
The ground starts to squirm all skeletons and worms
The world starts to burn and the window shaking
Then a rose might appear through the valley of tears
Overturn a thousand years with a smile and a whisper
I'm lying with a girl on a brown skinned world
And a cloud unfurls I awake and I missed her

And I have to admit -----

ANOTHER IRISH ROVER, sung by Four Men and a Dog, is on a various-artists compilation called "New Electric Muse: The Story of Folk into Rock," originally released in 1975 as a 4-LP box set, later updated and rereleased as a 3-CD set (Castle Music Ltd. 416, 1996).

Also, it MIGHT be the song that is used as a soundtrack to this surfing video called The International Polka Queen's Surfin Dude.
