Last night, I downloaded the shareware version of Noteworthy Composer. This is a VERY cool program. You can write music almost as easy as using a word processor, then play it back, and save it as a MIDI file. You can even import other MIDI files into it and it will write out the music for you. Truly amazing!

You need to check this out. You can get it here .

Paul: I have been looking for something like this. Did you download the "Composer" and the "Player". Do you need both of them? Get back to me, OK? Fred

I downloaded the demo version last year, and I was so impressed I bought the company ... wait a minute, no - I bought the software. It's worth the money to get the fully functional version.

Have a look here for more NCW stuff, and particularly at BoxMarks, available here, for a really useful NCW add-on.

This isn't an ad for NCW, I just think it's worth getting. (But if Noteworthy want to offend me with a consideration for the extra business, I suppose the mortification would be good for my soul!)

Yes, I use Noteworthy Composer and have been very pleased with it. The demo version has a limited number of "saves" so a composer will want to get the full version. Gosh, I was amazed when I found out it was only $40 bucks. I thought sure I'd pay more for such a wonderful program. I got it right away.

You should try TablEdit, before you buy Noteworthy. It produces TAB for several instruments as well as Music, and it handles MIDI files too. They also have a huge TAB library that you can download.

Get the free demo at www.tabledit.com

I am planning to register and pay the $55 (worth it)

I was reviewing some very old threads last night at a time about 18 months ago when Jon W, Joe Offer and myself were making the jump to NoteWorthy Composer. Since that time a number of us have made the $39 investment, and in my case I'm quite delighted by its utility. A fewf points of interest along the way:

- MMario, to their credit NoteWorthy continue to refine the product and provide upgrades free of charge. They actively seek input to their product development wish-list. Have you submitted to this list? I suspect that if you don't ask they may not be aware of the more general need.

- Using NWC (a lot) has really increased my music reading and writing skills, but not yet to the level that I'd like. But I think that I use NWC rather inefficiently. I have some little tips to make it easier for me, and I'm sure that others have more than me. Is this the best thread to raise these?

- Easy Rider, I've only dabbled with TAB a little, largely because of requests in this forum. The results from the shareware version of Music Ease seem quite powerful.

- There is a Music Software Forum where you can float questions about the usefulness of any sort of music software, or browse through their very considerable archive of questions, like "How can I convert my Caruso Edison cylinders to stereo?" ....I'll post the URL later.

Banjoman, the "player" is total freeware, but all it does is display and play Noteworthy files. "Composer" is what you want, I think. I used the unregistered version for about a year, until I got sophisticated enough to want more features. Then I paid the $39 registration, and I don't regret it - but the unregistered version of Noteworthy Composer does a lot.

MMario, I have the same problem/request you have. I've been able to get Noteworthy Composer to print close to what I want by fiddling around with font size settings, but I wish they would allow me to mark the end of each line where I want it.

*sigh* yes, to be able to mark end of line wherever IS in the wish list. Quite a few people have requested it. Don't get me wrong; I LOVE NWC - it is the only way I can tell what a piece of sheet music sounds like!

What are you guys talking about, marking the end of a line?

Hi, Margarita - Noteworthy kind of "word wraps" music when it prints it. It displays everything on your screen in one line, running stright until the end. when printing, it starts a new line when it gets to the margin of the paper. Mayvbe you'd like who have
Mary had a little lamb
Whose fleece was white as snow.
And everywhere that Mary went
The lamb was sure to go.
Well, Noteworthy might put it like this:
Mary had a little lamb Whose fleece was white as snow. And everywhere that Mary went The lamb was sure to go.
You don't control where the line ends on the page. I'd like that capability.
-Joe Offer-
