Does anyone have the Lyrics or an MP3 of the country western song. I heard a very short clip of this tune a couple of weeks ago and I thought they said the recording was by a person named Steele that's just a guess. Thanks in advance Louie

could it be this Tom Russell song?
In The Night with Cowboys Under The Mogollon Rim --- referring to
the Mogollon Rim area north of the towns of Strawberry and Pine, AZ

or perhaps it is actually Above the Rim...from the basketball movie?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Above_the_Rim (unlikely)

or this one from bonanza t.v. show?
Greg Walcott came up with the idea of the song, "Under the Red Rock Rim", while he was discussing his role of Danny Morgan for this show with David Dortort. Greg said he couldn't sing very well, but gave it a try for David over the phone. He liked it and David Rose joined the conversation. In less then 30 minutes, they composed the song over the phone.

The song was recorded at Paramount's recording studio in Hollywood. Walcott came in and met with one of David Rose's guitar players. Together, they rehearsed and recorded the song in a few takes for the required story scenes. It would be recorded and mixed in the final cut of the show's soundtrack before airing.

When filming on stages 16 and 17, Walcott lip synched the song to a tape recording that was played back out of camera range. The guitar strumming was faked, too. This method was employed in all the filmed cuts of the "singing scenes" of the episode. This includes the night scene where Adam's stunt double gets shot off the horse by the Reverend Johnson. The song played back on the sound stage was excised from the audio tapes in post-production. Walcott's original recording was inserted in place of it for the final sound mix.

Open Mike I know my info is not very good but what little they showed on TV it appeared to be on a CD and again I am guessing I believe it is a new song. One thing I'm sure of though is it is not a basket ball song over the rim

Can't help with either song, but I did just find out that Pernell Roberts (the last surviving member of the Bonanza main actors) has just died.

I just saw the Bonanza episode to which you refer and I too was wondering if the music is obtainable. It was really well done and a perfect example of the "cowboy" songs of that era. Hopefully we'll come across it.

Here's the "Song in the Dark" episode of Bonanza:The song begins at the very beginning of the episode, and continues off and on. At the very end of the episode, there's a clip from the song that makes it clear that the line is "nary a star" (not Mary). It's kind of a spooky episode - I liked it.

And here's another performance of the song, not from the TV show:
