Subject: Liverpool has disappeared From: GUEST,Patrick Hutchinson Date: 07 Jan 10 - 12:30 PM Where did the thread on the Liverpool folk scene disappear to? |
Subject: RE: Liverpool has disappeared From: Mark Dowding Date: 07 Jan 10 - 12:41 PM It's still there - put Liverpool in the filter box and select 1 year and a number of threads about Liverpool come up. Cheers Mark |
Subject: RE: Liverpool has disappeared From: Matthew Edwards Date: 07 Jan 10 - 03:35 PM "Liverpool has disappeared" - they may have dropped to seventh place in the Premiership, and they're out of the Champion's League but I don't think they've completely vanished from sight! **G** The city itself looked beautiful seen across the Mersey from New Brighton earlier today. Here's a link to the thread you were looking for:- Liverpool Folk Club 1970. It is a brilliant thread with lots of great memories. Matthew |

Subject: RE: Liverpool has disappeared From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 07 Jan 10 - 04:03 PM I thought that it might have been buried under snow. :-} |
Subject: RE: Liverpool has disappeared From: GUEST,999 Date: 07 Jan 10 - 04:10 PM Just reading about England (Wales and Scotland's ??) 50 cm snowfall. That is lots anywhere. Hope y'all are doing well with it. And I hope y'all look out for your elderly and those who are alone. Sometimes they get forgotten in times of really bad weather. |
Subject: RE: Liverpool has disappeared From: Matthew Edwards Date: 07 Jan 10 - 05:26 PM "Anything in Liverpool these days?" Depends what you're looking for - the city is being overun by stray penguins, whilst hungry baboons lurk in the outskirts. Musically the city and its hinterland is probably just as exciting and creative as it has always been, but a lot of the good stuff seems hard to find as it relies more on word of mouth than publicity. I often find out about great events after they have happened! However I think the Everyman folk club is still flourishing in Hope Street. Matthew |
Subject: RE: Liverpool has disappeared From: Jack Blandiver Date: 07 Jan 10 - 05:41 PM Just looking for a good hearty traditional singaround in a filthy back room of a pub that sells a decent beer - but thanks for reminding me about the penguins; looks like Saturday's our last chance to see 'em! Weather permitting of course... |
Subject: RE: Liverpool has disappeared From: terrier Date: 07 Jan 10 - 05:50 PM Spoke to my sis yesterday who lives in Liverpool. She said not to bother trying to come over as it's shut due to pack ice :) |
Subject: RE: Liverpool has disappeared From: Matthew Edwards Date: 07 Jan 10 - 06:13 PM "a good hearty traditional singaround in a filthy back room of a pub that sells a decent beer " - That was Oily Joe's to a T! But now thats an image of Liverpool that has almost totally disappeared along with so many of the old pubs. Still if you fancy a trip to visit the penguins on Saturday I could join you for a pint in the Philharmonic and try to sing a ballad or three and introduce Rachel to the architectural excitements of the Gentlemens' Lavatories! Matthew |
Subject: RE: Liverpool has disappeared From: Young Buchan Date: 07 Jan 10 - 09:24 PM If Liverpool has disappeared it will be because someone has nicked it. Try looking round the market on Saturday. |
Subject: RE: Liverpool has disappeared From: Don Firth Date: 07 Jan 10 - 09:52 PM I remember hearing a song called "The Leaving of Liverpool." I thought that meant that someone was leaving Liverpool. I didn't know that it was Liverpool that was leaving! (Where did it go, anyway? Is it coming back?) Don Firth |
Subject: RE: Liverpool has disappeared From: DonMeixner Date: 07 Jan 10 - 10:01 PM Ah! Liverpool has hardly disappeared. Drove through yesterday. The Salt Museum, Heid's Hot Dogs, Griffith Park, The French Fort, all still at the end of the lake. Of course the 18" of snow and the wind off Onondaga Lake makes it a little harder to see but come May the snow will all be gone. Don |

Subject: RE: Liverpool has disappeared From: terrier Date: 08 Jan 10 - 10:21 AM Don, which Liverpool is that you're posting about, you've got lot's of them over your side of the pond? We lost Onondaga Lake (Liverpool, UK) to a rubbish tip years ago but we've still got Lake Road, just up from the Lockup (where they'd put the drunks overnight to sober up :) |
Subject: RE: Liverpool has disappeared From: GUEST,Myrtle's cook Date: 08 Jan 10 - 11:09 AM 'Re: Just looking for a good hearty traditional singaround in a filthy back room of a pub that sells a decent beer' The Everyman FC reopens Tuesday 12 January (let's hope there's no more snow and ice), third room, from 8.30 - not quite a filthy backroom but excellent beer and music/singing. All very welcome. Also an excellent session with some singing on Monday's c.8.00 pm onwards at the Edinburgh on Sandown Lane, Wavertree. Again, excellent beer, music and company if not quite a filthy back room. |
Subject: RE: Liverpool has disappeared From: Jack Blandiver Date: 10 Jan 10 - 05:03 AM We made it to see the penguins - a last minute decision given the state of the weather; & a surreal experience driving down a quiet M6 - and the M58 was totally deserted when when we came off for the Maghull P&R! So - a very lovely footsore day tramping the snow & ice and enjoying these quite remarkable exhibits, so thanks for the heads-up. Just a shame we didn't know about them earlier or else we'd be looking forward to going back for more. We even contributed to the one you can chalk on in the Walker Gallery... Next time, Matthew - we'll have that pint! |
