Subject: Sold out 6 weeks in advance!
From: reggie miles

Some nice news to share for the first week of 2010. A dinner show that I played just before Thanksgiving sold out 2 weeks in advance. That was a pleasant surprise. So, the venue owners asked if I would be willing to play another. Duh! I just found out that the next event, scheduled for Valentines weekend, sold out 6 weeks in advance at $30 a ticket.

A couple of new original songs will also be featured in an MTV video early this year. I don't have the exact date yet but it's exciting to consider that me and my resophonic guitar, that I crafted from recycled garage sale junk about 20 years ago, (Yep, I was going green before going green was even cool.) will soon be featured playing acoustic bottleneck slide blues on MTV. In the video I'm backing my friend Artis The Spoonman, yep, the same Spoonman from Sound Garden's Grammy Award winning song, CD and video. We're featured playing on the street at Seattle's Pike Place Market. The video is a short film about Artis but will feature a small piece of the intro of "Wall Street Bail Out Blues" and most of my song, "That's More Like It".

Now, that's what I call starting your year off right! I'm thinkin' that 2010 could be a very good year.

Is 'These Old Shoes' one of yours too? I just listened to it on YouTube and it's a great song, well done. I'm not all that fond of blues as a regular thing but the mood and theme of These Old Shoes is great.

I LOVE 51 Highway Blues! I bought myself a copy, then got one for my mom and one for my cousin for Christmas.

Thanks leeneia!

katlaughing, thanks! I certainly will offer that info when it becomes available.

Many thanks Amos! I owe my meager skill at songwriting largely due to the many posts I ventured to comment about here at Mudcat. I even wrote one of my songs while in the middle of posting to one of the threads here.

Ebbie that was a very wonderful thing to say! Yes, "These Old Shoes" is my song and my first attempt at a music video on YouTube. (Tiny plug) It's also the title cut of one of my latest recordings.

Thank you Dan and thanks for posting that link!

open mike, many thanks for adding those other links!

ranger1, how kind of you! If it wasn't for fans of my musical endeavors the last 30+ years might have been very different.

Just great.   And you are really versatile.   "These Old Shoes" is bluesy and deep at the same time, with captivating smooth guitar work. And "Highway 51" is good hard-driving--(in all senses)--blues--with excellent bottleneck and blues harp.   And you wrote them both?   Man you are at least a triple threat. Be sure to tell us if you make it out to the east coast.

Thanks Animaterra and thank you for posting the link but Reggie and The Full Effect is not me. There are a couple of other Reggies in the area. I have the privilege of being the first that I know of in the music scene here in the Northwest.

I've been playing in the area since 1978 but there is also Reggie Garrett a folk styled singer/songwriter and another more recent comic Reggie Watts who kind of blew through the area too. Reggie G. had a great band name that he was using called The Snake Oil Peddlers. Some thought the Snake Oil Peddlers was my band. I wish that I had come up with that band name but I've been playing as a solo primarily.

Needless to say, I had folks confuse their performance dates with mine, simply because they were uncertain about my last name. Since the confusion, I began making a more concerted efforts to ensure that folks knew my last name.

The Google link you provided doesn't actually have anything about Artis and I together. There really isn't much about the two of us out there as a duo, even though we've played together quite a bit in the past. We're in the process of finding some booking help to organize some shows to coincide with the video release.

Ron, thanks for your response. "These Old Shoes" is my song but the videographer fellow who added the video of "51 Highway Blues" to YouTube did so without making me aware of the fact. If he had contacted me before he posted it, I would have made him aware of the fact that the song was not mine but merely my interpretation.

I didn't discover the song until after he had posted it. That video was the first video of any of my performances that I was aware of at YouTube.

I had no idea that he would post it with the caption making reference to the song as mine. No, the song is not mine but it is my bottleneck slide version of the song. Perhaps that's what he meant.

I've heard the song attributed to Big Joe Williams. A version of it was covered by Bob Dylan on one of his early Lps.

When I first saw the video posted, I was surprised to see it. I was promised a copy of the video from that show. It took a really long time just to get in contact with the folks who set up the show and get a copy of what was captured from the videographer. By the time I did manage to get my copy, he had already posted a copy of it to YouTube.

I wasn't certain how to contact the guy who posted it. I emailed and he never answered. It took a very long time to simply get a copy of the video captured that evening via the organizer of the event.

I'm not certain if that caption is able to be edited without having to re-post the video. If it is re-posted I'm fairly certain that the record of the number of hits/plays that it's received will be lost in the process. That would be a sad loss but one that I would gladly suffer to correct any confusion.

The folks who organized the event, where this was captured, were disappointed because the video of their performance at the event did not turn out. I have to say that this video didn't turn out quite as I had hoped either, but as it was the first video posted at YouTube of anything that I've played, I have to say that I'm glad it did get uploaded, even with the inaccurate caption.

In the comments posted about this video on YouTube I made mention of the fact that this was not my original song, rather simply my interpretation of it. One viewer became rather upset by the caption, claiming it was a Dylan song. I explained that Bob was offering his interpretation of the song, just as the video captured my interpretation.

If I had posted the video I would have been more careful to get such details as accurate as possible but others, like this fellow, didn't seem to think that such detail was as necessary.
