Subject: RE: Jeff Davis & Dave Ruch - April NY dates From: Will Fly Date: 02 Apr 10 - 10:46 AM Well, I've got a sister in Tucson AZ who keeps nagging me to get over and several friends scattered the length and breadth of the US. Perhaps next year, as this year is filling with stuff already. We may get to do "Sweet Georgia Brown" yet again - ya never know... |

Subject: RE: Jeff Davis & Dave Ruch - April NY dates From: Dave Ruch Date: 02 Apr 10 - 08:47 AM This whole weekend is shaping up to be a real blast. The Buffalo date on April 16 will indeed be a house concert, city of Buffalo location. PM me for details, or you can email dave at daveruch.com. We're more than half full already, but there's still 10-15 seats left as of today. Jeff and I have been busy working on each other's material, and we're whipping up several new (old) items as well. We'll be using voices and various mandolins, mandocellos, octave mandolins, fiddle, guitar, banjo and who-knows-what-else to put our own spin on some wonderful old material from Lena Bourne Fish, "Yankee" John Galusha, Alva Belcher (19th cent. black fiddler from Delhi NY), William Sidney Mount, Lawrence Older, the singing Wormuths of the Catskills, etc. The Sunday evening concert for WVBR's Bound for Glory will be broadcast live over the internet - - more details on that soon. |
Subject: RE: Jeff Davis & Dave Ruch - April NY dates From: GUEST,Henryp Date: 09 Jan 10 - 06:24 AM There must be something about Ithaca! Just before Christmas the BBC broadcast a programme following the trail of Vladimir Nabokov, the author of the book and the filmscript Lolita. Sephen Smith called at Cornell to talk to faculty members M.H. Abrams, now 97, who remembers Nabokov and Ken McClane who works in Nabokov's old Goldwin Smith Hall office. Smith's journey went from the shores of Lake Geneva to Nabokov's childhood haunts in the Russian countryside south of St Petersburg to the streets of New York City and a road trip through the anonymous world of small-town America. A fascinating progamme which would have been improved, in my opinion, by a little more traditional folk music on the soundtrack. |
Subject: RE: Jeff Davis & Dave Ruch - April NY dates From: Dave Ruch Date: 08 Jan 10 - 12:01 PM GUEST,Henryp, I'll tell Jeff that "Henry P" would love to be there. Vic, that sounds great. We've just had an offer in Tanzania for Wed April 14 so Lewes should fit right in with our routing... Brian, I hope that our opposing Saturday night shows don't cannabalize from each other, and that you don't wear those Ithacans out to such a degree that they can't come out on Sunday. Maybe we can meet up for a meal at some point that weekend. Do you know where you'll be before and after the 17th? |
Subject: RE: Jeff Davis & Dave Ruch - April NY dates From: Brian Peters Date: 08 Jan 10 - 10:35 AM I'd love to be there too, but by a bizarre coincidence I'm playing Cornell University Folksong Society on Saturday the 17th, so we'll miss by a whisker. Have several good 'uns! |

We have still got Thursday April 15th free at the Royal Oak in Lewes if you would like to add a fourth date to the tour! |
Subject: RE: Jeff Davis & Dave Ruch - April NY dates From: GUEST,Henryp Date: 08 Jan 10 - 08:59 AM Tell Jeff that I'd love to be there! It would be nice to see you both the other side of the Atlantic. |
Subject: Jeff Davis & Dave Ruch - April NY dates From: Dave Ruch Date: 08 Jan 10 - 08:42 AM April is a long way off, but please mark one (or more) of these dates on your calendar now if you live close enough and would like to attend one of these.... * * * * APRIL DUO CONCERTS WITH DAVE RUCH AND THE GREAT JEFF DAVIS! Friday, April 16, evening Buffalo NY Most likely a house concert, city of Buffalo location - reserve space now if interested in this one... Saturday, April 17, evening Binghamton NY The Cranberry Coffeehouse Sunday, April 18, evening Ithaca NY Bound For Glory live concert and radio show/webcast, Cornell University Jeff Davis is one of America's most respected collectors and interpreters of traditional music. He plays fiddle, banjo, mandocello, guitar, spoons, jaw's harps and a few instruments hand-made by folk craftsmen, and has toured extensively throughout the United States and to festivals in Canada, England, Ireland, The Netherlands, and Norway. Jeff and I have had a great deal of fun visiting and playing music as time has allowed over the past several years (New England Folk Festival, Eisteddfod Festival), and this will be a real treat to spend the better part of a week rehearsing and playing together. We'll be focusing (at Jeff's suggestion) on traditional music of New York State - - old Long Island fiddle tunes (as unlikely as that sounds), Great Lake songs, ballads and tunes from the Adirondacks, The Hudson, Erie Canal - - all that good old stuff that was once more common in our towns and villages. More info as we get closer, but please plan to join us if you can! |
