The Monday Irish Session will return to the Beech in Chorlton village from next Monday, i.e. February 22nd 2010.
(so don't go looking for us in the nearby Bowling Green).....

I can't let this go without mentioning The Beginners Session Last Tuesday of each month at The Beech, Beech Road,Cholrton, Manchester.

First Anniversary Tuesday 25th January. But we do play each tune slow and often.

If you are anywhere near Swinton, Dom, pop into the White Lioon on a Monday - Most Mondays are singers nights so you can get to meet people and see if they are interested in getting together musicaly. If you chance upon a Guest night - usualy the first Monday of the month - you may enjoy it anyway:-)

Hmm I looked on U Tube-- It's ok but I prefer something a bit more trad. I'm an old grouch and the minute I see Celtic on anything it just warns me not to get too excited. Eg Celtic Jazz fusion....
Anyways...Dom, hope you find something! I organise a session in Stockport at The Midway but we tend to be more English. There is a Klezmer session which may have the sort of thing you're looking for.

Charlie - it was a flippant remark, but dub means bass, bass means electric bass, electric bass means all the acoustic instruments have to be amplified, and amplifying all the acoustic instruments means the bass has to go up to 11.

Hi Dom,

you could try the Irish Session at The Beech, Chorlton (or maybe at the Bowling Green nearby) which is held on a Monday evening from 9 ish onwards. Also a good Irish Session at the Jolly Angler on Saturday evenings, thats sort of behind Piccadilly Station - I think you can google it for the address.

Try looking on the new north west folk website - www.northwestfolk.co.uk. It's managed by Les Pilling, who I interviewed on Sounds of Folk on Monday evening, and contains loads of useful information about clubs and gigs in the area, plus musicians sessions. There may be something there of interest to you, or you could pose a question about it in the Forum page. Good hunting!
