Subject: RE: Musicians wanted ,Manchester area From: Les from Hull Date: 11 Jan 10 - 05:39 PM 'electric bass means all the acoustic instruments have to be amplified' pah! |
Subject: RE: Musicians wanted ,Manchester area From: Dave the Gnome Date: 11 Jan 10 - 02:29 PM If you are anywhere near Swinton, Dom, pop into the White Lioon on a Monday - Most Mondays are singers nights so you can get to meet people and see if they are interested in getting together musicaly. If you chance upon a Guest night - usualy the first Monday of the month - you may enjoy it anyway:-) Cheers DeG |
Subject: RE: Musicians wanted ,Manchester area From: Peter Stockport Date: 11 Jan 10 - 01:50 PM Hmm I looked on U Tube-- It's ok but I prefer something a bit more trad. I'm an old grouch and the minute I see Celtic on anything it just warns me not to get too excited. Eg Celtic Jazz fusion.... Anyways...Dom, hope you find something! I organise a session in Stockport at The Midway but we tend to be more English. There is a Klezmer session which may have the sort of thing you're looking for. There's website here http://www.manchesterklezmer.org/ Cheers Peter |
Subject: RE: Musicians wanted ,Manchester area From: Phil Edwards Date: 11 Jan 10 - 09:22 AM Charlie - it was a flippant remark, but dub means bass, bass means electric bass, electric bass means all the acoustic instruments have to be amplified, and amplifying all the acoustic instruments means the bass has to go up to 11. |

Subject: RE: Musicians wanted ,Manchester area From: Gedi Date: 09 Jan 10 - 05:19 PM Hi Dom, you could try the Irish Session at The Beech, Chorlton (or maybe at the Bowling Green nearby) which is held on a Monday evening from 9 ish onwards. Also a good Irish Session at the Jolly Angler on Saturday evenings, thats sort of behind Piccadilly Station - I think you can google it for the address. cheers Ged |
Subject: RE: Musicians wanted ,Manchester area From: Alio Date: 09 Jan 10 - 05:11 PM Hi Dom, Try looking on the new north west folk website - www.northwestfolk.co.uk. It's managed by Les Pilling, who I interviewed on Sounds of Folk on Monday evening, and contains loads of useful information about clubs and gigs in the area, plus musicians sessions. There may be something there of interest to you, or you could pose a question about it in the Forum page. Good hunting! Ali |
