DT Lyrics:

Subject: Thank You and a Request
From: Bo Vandenberg

First off I want to thank you for the dozens of songs I have found at this site. Thank you very much.

But the contributions of this site to my own songbook have created a crisis of conscience. I would like to credit Digital Traditions and its principle contributors and I dont really know how. Other people, with no net access, will occaisonally read my book and I want to fairly represent you guys to them.

request in 2 parts:

1) would you guys like to state in one or two paragraphs what Digital Traditions is. This would be used in an introduction or bibliography to represent yourselves to people without net access.

2) On many occaisions where your notes have been useful or pertinent I have left them with the song. For a novice reader, the mysterious "RG" etc after a comment might be puzzleing. If you dont mind me including these comments would you mind posting a small CV. of yourselves to qualify the notes.

This is entirely not for profit, but I'm trying to take the high road and represent you in the gracious manner you deserve.

The Digital Tradition is a not-for-profit, not-for glory compendium of folk and folkish songs, in searchable digitized format. It represents the work of literally hundreds of contributors. The DT is not copyrighted, and can be used by anyone for anything. On the other hand, many of the songs in the collection ARE copyrighted, whether or not we know by whom. Anyone using the Digital Tradition as a source is hereby warned that the fact that a song is included here does not convey the rights to anyone else (we have a hundred or so composers/writers who have granted us-- and no-one else--permission to include their material. The initials are included only to permit the DT custodians to contact contributors; I wouldn't feel right divulging them without specific permission. If anything is initialed RG, feel free to attribute it to me; I make no claim to being an authority, though, so the notes are generally my condensation of the notes of those better informed than I. Oh yes--The DT is not restricted to the WWW. We distribute copies (on disk, in Mac and PC formats) at no charge. We only ask that requesters supply formatted disks (4 HD) and a stamped, self-addressed mailer.

SF = Susan Friedman While I have entered lots of songs, I did not write a lot of notes - a few historical references - and otherwise copied the author's notes, often condensed.
