We'll do something at the Kirkby Fleetham Folk Club Winter Warmer Weekend (Feb 19th-21st) to raise some money. Maybe donate the takings from one of the raffles. Sorry this won't help in the next 2 weeks.

I remember this charity well from my Lincoln days. It is well worth supporting.

Strut made an enormous difference for my little sister and brother, both of whom have multiple disabilities.

Back in the late 1990s, my family relocated from the U.S. to Lincolnshire for two years for my father's job. One of my parents' greatest concerns was how to manage the complex needs of my two disabled siblings in a different country's educational and medical systems. They were surprised and delighted by the excellent staff and range of services offered by Strut--the organisation eased my parents' fears and made my family's life there not merely easier, but richer.

I wish I had the financial resources to contribute to this cause. I don't, but I can at least share a story and hope others may feel moved to help.

Its not so much the shops Rockhen, as the people they support and look after.

If you are able to run an event at Caistor, it would be great.

I am hoping to create a list of organisers who can run an event and when and who is appearing.

I am currently awaiting a call from the person from Strut, to see how they can help those who are willing to put events on.

I got this about an excellent charity based in Lincoln UK who are suffering becuase donations are dwindling.
Any chance Mudcatters can pull together to try and get this wonderful charity back on its feet. They need a quick sharp injection of £15000 to ensure the future. Surely we at Mudcat could acheive that in no time.
I for my part am trying to set up a concert at Faldingworth Live and hopefully donate a big amount of dosh for them. I will post on here when sorted, but plan something for Jan 23rd 2010
Any chance of Mudcatters setting up gigs, raffles etc to donate to this charity.

This is the press release from STRUT which I find hard to believe. The lady who set this up Dr Millns is a fantastic lady who I have had the pleasure to meet, when my daughter had to attend her clinics. She is unselfish and brilliant.

For immediate release


Strut in the Community faces Closure within 2 weeks
A local charity that have been supporting children with disabilities in Lincoln for over 25 years now faces closure within 2 weeks unless the local community can support their ongoing work.
The devastating news comes as a huge blow to all the families supported by Strut as well as the dedicated volunteers and staff who now face redundancies unless a solution is found.
"We have seen an £86,000 drop in donations from last financial year to this and despite making significant changes to the charity, moving into community based settings for care and opening a new showroom for furniture, we have not been able to bridge the gap this has created in the budget." says Organisation Manager Aimee Holland
Within the next two weeks Strut need to secure funding of £15,000 so that the rescue plan can be implemented.
Dr Millns is still with the charity after setting it up in 1981 and is worried about the gap it will leave in the lives of the families.
"Many children are not entitled to support from the Local Authority and the regular care we provide give the families a lifeline as well as helping the children to lead independent lives, build confidence and learn social skills."
The news is made doubly hard to bear as it is announced on a day when Strut were planning to submit a tender to the Local Authority, which if they had been successful would have made a substantial amount of money available from March onwards.
"Our children need your support to allow them access to our unique clubs, there are very few other clubs like our for the families and we are relying on the support of the public to be able to continue our work" says Karl Robson Care Team Leader
Strut in the Community are now seeking financial support from members of the local community in a bid to save the service and to continue to support children with disabilities in the area. Donations can be made online at www.strutinthecommunity.com or to any of our shops.
