I can certainly vouch for both speakers, they will be great. Thanks for the mention for Copshie Matt and I can announce that our judges for the Border Ballads this year will be Anne Neilson and Gordeanna McCulloch...........

In December just gone I went to a fascinating talk on Kinmont Willie in Hawick Town Hall, which was packed for the occasion. There are a couple of talks coming up in Langholm so I thought I'd post details here, and if there are any related events others can add to the thread.

I'm using "the Borders" here to include Scottish Borders, Dumfries and Galloway, Northumberland, Cumbria.

Two Tuesday afternoon talks at Buccleuch Centre, Langholm, part of 'Border Worthies' series, £8 each:

26th January "Ballad Mentalities and Border Realities" - Professor Ted Cowan
16th February "Johnnie Armstrong Re-visited" - Ian Martin
Details

Border Ballad singing competitions feature in

1/

C5: TRADITIONAL BALLAD, OPEN: singer or singer-instrumentalist, or group of singers/instrumentalists; all or part of a traditional Border or North Country ballad.
Details

2/
