Subject: RE: Performing at Volunteer, Sidmouth From: Surreysinger Date: 11 Jan 10 - 09:16 AM "Fast approaching" - blimey ... and it's only the second week in January with seven months to go (over half a year away). Much as I love Sidmouth (and the Volunteer) that feels like wishing one's life away!! |
Subject: RE: Performing at Volunteer, Sidmouth From: GUEST,Gadaffi Date: 11 Jan 10 - 09:21 AM Could Tug the Cox explain himself to me. I have run the Volly for the last five years, and keep in touch with Roger Grimes who does the saloon bar in the evenings, also Steve Lea who actually runs the pub. It will be wisest to talk to Ruth Archer and John Howson, so that things can be properly coordinated. |
Subject: RE: Performing at Volunteer, Sidmouth From: Ruth Archer Date: 11 Jan 10 - 10:30 AM Hi George, I suspect that this may refer to bands out back in the garden, as opposed to what goes on inside, and assume tha tthe message must have come direct from the Volunteer/Steve Lea. As the pub programmed the garden spots last year, presumably they are looking to do so again - either that, or this is an out-of-date message. I will make some enquiries. Joan |
Subject: RE: Performing at Volunteer, Sidmouth From: Tug the Cox Date: 11 Jan 10 - 12:23 PM Spot on Ruth....It is from the pub itself, which went out on their facebook group ( worth joining if you frequent the volly) they have a range of bands in the garden that they book and pay for themselves, its not that far away, when you realise that most of the performers are already booked and advertised. This is a chance for those looking to play in Sidmouth to get in early. |
Subject: RE: Performing at Volunteer, Sidmouth From: Surreysinger Date: 11 Jan 10 - 09:49 PM The Volunteer fan club page on Facebook is run by Jo as far as I know, so is, as Ruth and Tug have both stated, run by "The Management". |
Subject: RE: Performing at Volunteer, Sidmouth From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 12 Jan 10 - 01:25 AM Yes, A jolly enterprising venture by the "management" Gets a few more locals in, and the chance for non booked acts to maybe subsidise their trip. IIRC it's not confined to folkies either, and it doesn't get in the way of the main festival. looks like a win win situation. |
Subject: RE: Performing at Volunteer, Sidmouth From: GUEST,Gadaffi Date: 12 Jan 10 - 05:07 AM Not a problem with me, so the matter is closed - and the very best to Steve and Jonat The Volly who try terribly hard to make things work in Sidders the remaining 51 weeks of the year. Having work hard myself trying to coordinate things from a festival viewpoint, I realise what a thankless task it can be. Try Hobo Jones and the Junkyard Dogs, a Maidstone-based band who play punk skiffle! Their website shows they've done a few gigs in the Yeovil area, so I assume they have family or friends over there. |
Subject: RE: Performing at Volunteer, Sidmouth From: The Borchester Echo Date: 12 Jan 10 - 05:12 AM Who would it be a problem? The Volunteer has run events out in the garden for many years, entirely independent of what might occur in the bar. The word "marquee" is a bit of a giveaway. |
