Subject: Tech: Post Snatching Fairy From: Janie Date: 15 Jan 10 - 06:49 AM Just saying that it appears to be a especially wise right now to copy and paste important or substantial posts to notepad or a similar program before hitting the submit button, and check after posting to see if you post appears on the thread to which you are posting. Am noticing with my own posts, and from comments from others on threads that an unusually high number of them have been disappearing into cyberspace the past few days. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Post Snatching Fairy From: Janie Date: 15 Jan 10 - 06:51 AM Wish I could blame missing letters in the above post on the Post Snatching Fairy. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Post Snatching Fairy From: Mr Red Date: 15 Jan 10 - 09:25 AM I "copy" often. But using the back button, then copying has worked. Once a post has refused, I start again by refreshing the thread list, finding the original thread and the second attempt usually works. If this is the worst that can happen to the 'Cat - we are well blessed. Anyway he is a Pixie you can't say Fairy these days. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Post Snatching Fairy From: John MacKenzie Date: 15 Jan 10 - 09:42 AM Can you say snatch? |
Subject: RE: Tech: Post Snatching Fairy From: Nigel Parsons Date: 15 Jan 10 - 09:43 AM Anyway he is a Pixie you can't say Fairy these days. So what do I do my washing up with then, mild green pixie liquid? |

Subject: RE: Tech: Post Snatching Fairy From: Hamish Date: 15 Jan 10 - 10:32 AM Try phrasing something really badly or including a really embarrassing spelling mistake in your posts. Those ones never disappear. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Post Snatching Fairy From: Bill D Date: 15 Jan 10 - 12:42 PM Yes...it is happening at odd times... My oft repeated advice... go 'back', copy the post, then RELOAD the page, not REFRESH. Reload is what you do in the browser menu, NOT what you click on the Mudcat page. This puts a guaranteed new, fresh copy of Mudcat in your browser cache. (You DO have to be in a browser which saves the text in the 'back' page where you posted. Opera always does it for me. Firefox does not. IE may) |
Subject: RE: Tech: Post Snatching Fairy From: MGM·Lion Date: 15 Jan 10 - 12:49 PM Ah, thanks Bill - I wondered why mine just vanished: I have Firefox. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Post Snatching Fairy From: Stilly River Sage Date: 15 Jan 10 - 12:53 PM Fairy, pixie, Bah! It's a blankety-blank Gremlin! |
Subject: RE: Tech: Post Snatching Fairy From: Bill D Date: 15 Jan 10 - 01:00 PM I have several browsers...I am in Opera 82.0139% of the time.. *grin*...(Opera makes internal navigating very easy, as in between tabs, forward & back, and more.) I have to remember where I am when posting, as I HATE retyping. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Post Snatching Fairy From: MMario Date: 15 Jan 10 - 01:01 PM No, I have it on good authority it is a glitch. Not to be confused with a daemon, |

Those ones never disappear. === This is a particularly telling example of the phenomenon known as Sod's Law, which I think worthy of a thread of its own. With acknowledgments & thanks to Hamish, I have just started one below the line. Michael |
Subject: RE: Tech: Post Snatching Fairy From: GUEST,Joe_F Date: 15 Jan 10 - 01:29 PM These are all mere manifestations of IPOIO, which is the fundamental principle. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Post Snatching Fairy From: Amos Date: 15 Jan 10 - 02:17 PM Is IPOIO a TLA? A |
Subject: RE: Tech: Post Snatching Fairy From: Joe Offer Date: 15 Jan 10 - 02:50 PM It does seem to happen more often at some times than others. Is it the phase of the moon? I'm trying to get into the habit of copying every post before I submit, but the habit isn't forming very well. And sometimes, I have to try five submissions before I remember to follow Bill D's suggestions.... -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Tech: Post Snatching Fairy From: Little Robyn Date: 15 Jan 10 - 04:04 PM It's happened to me a few times too but there's another glitch I found as well - with the Blue Clicky thing. I'm usually pretty good at making Blickies but about a week ago I put two links to pictures of NZ veggies in Goose Ganders sweet potato pie thread, and all that came up was the Google page. I went back and checked but it wouldn't show the whole URL. I had to cut and paste that instead. Is it a glitch or a Grinch? I made a Blicky for the kytrad thread the other day and included the URL as well but the Blicky worked OK that time. Robyn |
Subject: RE: Tech: Post Snatching Fairy From: Ross Campbell Date: 15 Jan 10 - 05:16 PM I just made a blue clicky on another thread. Did the usual copy and paste with the URL and found it had added the details onto the end of a URL copied yesterday. I tried again and eliminated the unwanted bit. I thought the "copy" action would have cleared any previously remembered copy. Is this a Firefox issue? I usually manage quie well to avoid losing posts because Firefox allows additional tabs for side-searches, etc, and forces additional tabs for blue clickys and link-testing, meaning you always have access to the reply box without the risk of losing it to the page-back black hole. Subject: RE: Tech: Post Snatching Fairy From: GUEST,999 Date: 15 Jan 10 - 07:28 PM So, "Fairy, pixie, Bah! It's a blankety-blank Gremlin! " Yeah, yeah. Blame it on the Russians, SRS. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Post Snatching Fairy From: Bill D Date: 15 Jan 10 - 07:58 PM I thought American Motors made the Gremlin! |
Subject: RE: Tech: Post Snatching Fairy From: frogprince Date: 16 Jan 10 - 09:49 AM Yup; I once rode a few miles in the back seat of a Gremlin; I was sitting next to young woman who was 4'8" tall; even she was propped sideways for lack of leg room. A few days ago I heard someone observe that the Gremlin was created so that the Ford Pinto wouldn't feel so bad. What was that car called before they chopped off the rear end to make it into the Gremlin? |
