Hi Phil; I've tried the Thomann Box jobs, and I agree, they are great for the money (I use a Bose rig as well, two of the PAS systems, or a big Mackie rig for bigger gigs). What appeals about the helicons is that they mount on the mike stand and act as nearfield monitors, and they have an input box on the floor that allows the artist to blend main monitor mix with their vocal and/or instrument via controls on the unit itself. All of this while still sending a dry signal to the front of house sound desk.

Db (The Italian based company as opposed to the top notch german company of the same name) make a small powered monitor which I use often on small gigs. Expensive but very nice, compact and versatile.
At the other end of the scale, I was at the Hitchin Folk Club last night and Kierons very smart bose rig incorporates a pair of VERY inexpensive Thoman Tbox monitors which are surprisingly good and very compact. Impressive. About £70/80 pounds each.

Hi all; I'm looking to replace my floor wedge monitors with small personal monitors. The three choices seem to be Mackie, Galaxy and TC Helicon. I've listened to all three, and the TC Helicon VSM300xt seems the best in terms of sound, size and versatility. Does anyone use these regularly? Any comments on how well they work in use?
Tim
