Ok Folks, I have posted this before and thanks for helpful responses, but I thought it might be useful to start again for 2010.

We are looking for Folk music, dance, folklore or anything generally related.

Any ideas?

St Chartier, in central France, is the perennial not-to-be-missed festival. 16th to 18th July 2010. Info will be here later on:

In SW Brittany the Fêtes Maritimes de Douarnenez alternates with Paimpol and is another that's on our list to not miss: 22th - 25th July 2010. Info here:

Les Nuits Basaltiques Puy en Velay end of July/beginning August
La Chavannee festival Allier late July
Les Volcaniques Riom early July
Grand Bal d'Europe Genntines mid July

Centre régional des musiques traditionnelles en limousin has good information/calendars
AMTA in Riom also has good information

We went to one in Goran in Brittany in September.
Not a Festival as we know it Jim but very enjoyable IF you like Bagpipes and Bombards Lovely setting at Chateau Tronjollie and a wonderful dance, mainly Playford, so I am told in the evening.
No sessions No singarounds not much atmosphere but very pleasant and good food in the village.
I suppose it was a competative festival really

Hundreds of folk festivals happen every year in the UK and Ireland. Is that where you are heading?

As for France - it has an amzing collection of old music but I have always failed to find much of it through 30 years of visits
