Would somebody confirm the weekend for the Ahchor Middle Bar/Radway reunions in February as holidays from work need to be booked and B&Bs organised. I'm assuming the weekend of 20th February - is this right?

Also, will there be a workshop leaders/organisers meeting at that time as in earlier years? So little time, so much to do - at least I'm not in hospital this year!

A warning to those who normally like to stay at the York and Faulkner if you have not booked already you may be disappointed. When I rang last week all the single rooms had gone and there was little else left. Looks like a cold camper van at the back of the Anchor for me. I trust they still let campers stay over in the car park.

Mrs Scarecrow - it's a real shame that your other half hasn't been able to get to the reunion, again! I had a similar experience of not booking my single room in the RY&F in time one year (pre-Derek), and ended up in the Marlborough (before it became Dukes). I now book quite soon after the summer festival for the following February! You could try ringing the Fudges on 01395 514 129ý to check availability of space in the Anchor car park.

Looking forward to it.....We have booked the same apartment (next door to The Bedford) as last year. Karen will,of course,be in the Anchor Bar.When not buying & cooking fresh fish, I might well go and annoy Ralphie "et al" in The Other Place ! This year will be my 45th Sidmouth anniversary ,as I first attended in 1965 ! Gosh, was it different then ? Yes !

Please do pop into the "other" place bubbly! And indeed any other Singers who might fancy a break. We're quite a nice bunch really!!
Can't match you on 45 years. Started going in 1974, and haven't got the full set either. Dang it!

I managed to get what was probably one of the last single rooms in the RYF just before Christmas.

Will definately be in the Middle Bar

Might well buy a pint in The Other Place because the Indian Restuarant a couple of doors away has no booze licence but they let you bring a beer in (the pub co-operates)

See you all there eh?

Dave

Just in case anyone is planning to use the A303 to get to Sidmouth this weekend, it's closed between Mere and Wincanton and there are diversions in both directions.. ..

Gout ?? Too much Port, I venture to suggest ! Is that what Pusser encourages you to drink, now that they've done away with The Tot,as they so cruelly did 40 years ago this July---I know, I was there on that fateful day,on "Divisions", barely able to stand and with " RIP TOT " tastefully picked out in Pusser's masking-tape on both skins of my bass-drum !! ( Historic photo available for public viewing on Facebook). See you this weekend then ? (Your shout).

Had a bit of a panic actually,as the couple we were going to share our apartment near the Bedford with, can't now come . Luckily,Kevin ( think white beard, lovely deep voice !) and Sue ,from Aylesbury way, will be submitting themselves to my fish-cooking abilities. Early night tonight, then an ETD of Zero -Nine-Ring-Spanner on the morrow---River Cottage, here we come !!

At this point, at least once upon a time at Whale Island, a parrot in a cage in the Guardroom would shout " Fuck Off !". Really !

Watch out for the roadworks and lane -closures on the A 303 near Mere, Liz; it might even be worth diverting through Shaftesbury. Anyway,a quick coffee, then we'll be on our way .

Thanks to everyone for a great weekend - the lovely (by February standards) weather was an added bonus.

Glad I finally made it up to the Radway to say hello to the musos, and sorry I couldn't stay for the Sunday survivors' sessions.

Looking forward to Folk Week in August - and to the Alcester Winter Warmer next weekend.

A good weekend at both venues, and a pleasant survivor's session at the Globe, Lymphona ( That's Dave Earl's Blackeberry's Spellchecker's version of Lympstone) ( Hey, grammar pedants, three consecutive possesive apostrophes in the last parentheses).) Other Mudcatters noted were Ruth Archer, MGAS, Breton Cap and probably loads whose handle I don't know.

Hur hur....

Oddly enough, to tie in with the 'what songs shouldn't you sing at a folk club' - someone did 'Fields of Athenry' and it's been so long since I heard the original (about 7 years by my count) that it was quite refreshing but I couldn't remember the proper chorus (Malcolm Austin, you are a bad, bad man...)!

Karen may well have taken a shot or two of you, Liz ;I'm sure she will be posting a "link" soon.
I very much enjoyed the Herbaceous Border session on the seafront on Sunday morning---the band was not only good, but quite large for once !
I also enjoyed some "joining in with the chorus" singing on Saturday afternoon, especially the longest version of "Paddy Lie Back" that I have ever,I think,heard--well done, that man !
Never did make it to the Radway, but I heard that it was crowded : also,if I'd known about "The Volunteer", I would probably have gone there instead ( and suggested some Irish tunes !!).
Easy ,and scenic, journey back home ----we went via Lyme Regis (almost), Dorchester, Blandford, then followed the Warminster road until we came back to the A 303 where we'd left it ! Slow, but no jams,no delays,no hold-ups,and,as I said,VERY scenic ! So nice,in fact, that we are going to have a few days on a campsite at Monkton Wylde after the Bude festival !!

Kitty speaks the truth.
Fiona and I spent a short hour discussing past festivals and absent friends, with a couple of locals in the Volunteer.
For that brief spell, on a cold February night, through half closed eyes, the Volunteer might, just might, have been the "New Dove".

Sweet Dreams.
Dave.
