Hello once again,

After a period of difficulties for the Rescue Boat the future is once again looking bright and there is a great need for extra income to train new crew and purchas new equipment. Thus once again Wombat and I will be hosting a fun filled night of mirth and merriment, Wombat for her sins is now the secretary of the rescue boat committee (against my better judgement, but bless her for the time and work she puts in). This year we have raised over one thousand, five hundred pounds, a huge big thank you from all the crew and committee.

For details of the night, time and place please PM me

Thanks

Nick

Glad to hear things are looking up for the boat. They do a very valuable service and we really enjoy the 'torture' of fund raising for them - well have YOU ever tried saying 'No' to Raggytash for money for her?

Good luck and good sailing.

Sounds good Raggytash that things are looking bright for the rescue boat.
I do like to support you and Wombat (and of course the boat) whenever I can and love to come up to Whitby, but why the secrecy? Why are you requesting that people PM you for details of the night, time and place?
Why not just post all details here so anyone who is interested can come along?
Asking people to PM you for such basic details could give an impression of some sort of secret/exclusive/vetted/private party which could put a lot of people off or they might just feel that they can't be bothered to make the effort to PM you in the first place.
Either way I don't think it will do a lot to pull in the punters!
I also gives you a lot more work to respond to individual PM's, so why do it?

I do most sincerely apologise if I sound a bit negative because I don't mean to be. I'm just bemused and ever so confused about why you are approaching and 'promoting' such an important fund raising event in this manner.
Surely it's bums on seats and the brass in their pockets that counts to make this night a success and not to put up hoops for people to jump through just to get the most basic and crucial details.
I rest my case.

Chris,

There is a limited amount of space at the venue therefore I cannot issue an open invitation to all, this event started as a party in our house in the mid 90's, I would like to keep that feeling of intimacy, it's worked well over the years and as in any party the hosts get to invite their friends not strangers. It is not just about bums on seats or the money in peoples pockets.

Cheers

Nick

OK Nick. I see where you are coming from and fully appreciate what you mean by the "feeling of intimacy" when as hosts you get to invite friends and not strangers.
But 'strangers' can also become new friends and some old friends may not be willing to PM you to get all the details; so your tactic could be a bit of a gamble.
Either way I wish you all the best and hope it is a successful and intimate event.

Chris

Thanks Raggytash.

Soldier Boy have you been to some of Raggy's Runswick Nights in Whitby? If not ask (nicely) for the details. Usually it gets comfortably full from those who've been before (from all over the country). Great music (by chiefly ourselves), great crack and if we are good and empty our pockets nicely the possibility of great food provided by the 'host'.

I was lucky enough to be one of those who used to go when it was at Nick and Christine's home and now go in Whitby whenever possible.

If you feel you would like to put some 'bums on seats' for the Runswick Boat why not start another similar night around you. Every penny is used for the best and they usually turn up some great surprises. From little acorns...... I know a lot of your team and friends would turn up. Same for anyone else.

For those of you who are unaware of this Runswick Lifeboat is NOT run by the RNLI and is financed by it's supporters.

Tig. You surprise me! I think you know very well that I have been to Nick and Christine's Runswick Nights in Whitby and The Socialist Club in Milnsbridge, near Huddersfield(before they moved to Whitby).

On one occasion when I couldn't personally make it to the event I donated a bohran for the auction and it raised £60 towards the fund raising.

Your point about starting another similar night in my own locality (Huddersfield)is a good one and has got me thinking.
Why don't we help Nick and Christine to share the load and a few of us in different locations run similar events for The Runswick Bay Rescue Boat throughout the year.

Perhaps I could organise one, you could organise one and perhaps others might like to organise one as well. It's just an idea!

But it seems to me that if we could collectively organise say another three or four similar fund raising events specifically for the boat spread over the year then we could make a massive difference to the funds that are raised.

So, Yes, I am willing to offer my services to organise a similar event locally this year. I can't promise that it will be anywhere near as big or as grand as the Whitby do but that doesn't matter so long as we have a good do and we raise some cash for the boat.

If we had four smaller events during the year raising a target of say £250 each that would add another £1000 to the funds.
Even in the current economic climate I think that is a reasonable sum to achieve with perhaps an entry fee, raffle and auctions/craft stalls/profits on drink sales (where you book a local hall and run your own bar)etc, etc. But I would hope to raise more than this.

So what do you think?
I've now made a commitment to help Nick and Christine to raise funds for the RBRB and by golly I will stick to it. So, Tig and others, are you willing to join me in this pledge and show our support to this good cause?

As you said Tig; "From little acorns....."

Chris

Chris, Tig

Brilliant idea, I've never looked to set a target, if you raise ten quid it's ten quid that they didn't have before, the first year I was astonished to raise £150, we only did a small raffle and asked for donations, but I NEVER fail to be amazed by people generousity, you have both contributed over the years and as Chris said the Bodhran he donated (which was a very nice one) raised £60.

Cheers

Nick

And it cost me £80!!!!
But I don't care - it went to a very good cause. That's what counts.
So give generously.
Bless.

Very sorry Nick but I can't make it afterall now.

I've checked in my diary and it is the same weekend as the first birthday of my granddaughter. We are having a big family party to celebrate so I can't get out of it.

Humble apologies and I hope that you have a great weekend.

Best regards to you and Christine.

Chris

The total this morning stands at ONE THOUSAND AND FORTY TWO POUNDS !!!!! There'll be a bit more this afternoon, there are far too many people to mention them all by name and I'd be afraid to miss someone out but once again THANK YOU

Excellent total Raggy. Thanks for a brilliant night. I had a great time and the corned beef hash (corned beef curtesy of Bothams :-) )was well up to the usual standard.

Let's see - that's about a couple of square inches towards the new boat or 4 helmets...

Let's keep going.
