"They quote a figure for fluatists at 2 METs (a very slow walk) "

I wonder what the fluatists were playing. I'd bet Michael McGoldrick comes in at about 15.

I walk the dog for an hour a day. And I sometimes sing ballads while walking. Does that count as 'physical exercise in folkdom'?

this one made me stop

6.0 -   home activities - butchering animals

I thought butchering animals was more a farm or maybe even religions activity.

I buy it for the retorts on page 3.

The nub of the article/section refers to MET - which is the ratio between resting and moving "metabolic rate". 1 is no exercise, a fast walk comes in at 12 which is good exercise rather than "training".

They quote a figure for fluatists at 2 METs (a very slow walk) and drummers at 4 METs. Which as a fully paid-up rhythmist sounds about right.
Golf comes in at 4.5 METs (a good walk definitely spoiled there) but using a Golf Buggy doesn't even lift off 1 (no exercise whatsoever).

Sorry melodeons, fiddles, banjos etc no figures quoted but if you are keen to know more: start here.
