"But don't you think that they will be making more money than they will be donating?"

DOH! I'm making more money than I donated or will be donating.

Oops! That last post of mine was supposed to go in another thread! Sorry 'bout that!

I have 5 recordings available at CD Baby. I think that if they're willing to give up what amounts to 25% of their profit ($1 out of every $4) from the sale of one of my CDs, I'm not opposed to that.

Yesterday, I found out that my friend Eric Apoe had received confirmation that the folks at Egan's Ballard Jam House 1707 Northwest Market Street Seattle, WA 98107 have graciously offered to host a benefit event. I contacted Eric about working together on the event. He's organized some very successful benefit events in the past. All funds will go to Food For The Poor . The date is set for February 25th. The event will feature about 20 players. Many have already volunteered their efforts.

Disclaimer: I am a CD Baby artist. I think it's a great thing. The money the CDB is donating is coming out of their pocket and not ours.

It's a win-win all way 'round.

chaz yes but they are donating a good thing. all corps donate for reasons other than pure giving. mostly for the publicity they get. they give a million - get ten million in free ads. but at least some good comes out of it

Why does it matter? I am sure Haiti can use the money. mg

Ooooh, there's cynical.
If a few more people "jumped on the back" then a whole lot more could be raised.
Surely not many people are going to buy a cd they didn't want because of this donation,so it probably is "good" money".

"Starting on Monday, January 25th and continuing for two weeks CD Baby will donate $1 from every CD sale through our website, and $1 from every download sale over $8.99 on our site, to the American Red Cross and to Mercy Corps, a Portland-based relief organization with a large presence in Haiti. With your help, we hope to raise tens of thousands of dollars."

I think this is CD Baby jumping on the back of a disaster to bump up their sales.

What do you think?

Chaz
