Remember Serpico, the NYCity cop who caused a huge corruption investigation in the police department? He was shot and left with no backup plus his fellow officers didn't call for an ambulance because the whole Force was so angry about his efforts. Al Pacino starred as him in the movie.

I just happened to find an article about him at the NYTs and it includes a short video of him talking about it and also watching the movie, which he'd never seen in its entirety. It's quite touching PLUS he plays harmonica! You will find the second page of the article and the video which worked for me on THIS PAGE.

I think he's looking really good!

Well, he's holding up at least as well as Pacino is!

Thanks for that, very interesting, though it makes me wonder how much things have really changed in the force since then.

aaaahh!!! thanks Kat. Enjoyed the read and video. Not that they are fond memories but it was a place and time that occured. I remember hearing that he was in Switzerland, then he had to be moved. He ended up in Ireland and again had to be relocated. Some of this was just rumors I guess.

Cheers, Kat. I must say after reading the book and seeing the film years ago I'd forgotten about the man. Nice to be reminded.
Charlie.

Thanks, guys. I read the book and then saw the film. I could never forget them. I'd been reading almost everything which came out about organised crime, at the time, and this one just stuck. I am glad to see him looking so well, handsome, and apparently happy. I look forward to reading his own book when he gets it done and, if he publishes it.

I know I have seen the film but I cannot say I remember it properly. What an interesting article and fascinating man though. Must get to see the film again some time soon.

I saw an interview with a female cop. Her reaction was that they let you infiltrate the drugs organisation, but there is no back-up when the convictions are in. The only way to infiltrate was to be a junkie and in re-hab they were left to sort it out for themselves. I don't remember the jurisdiction she worked in.

But it was later than Serpico. It has resonances.
