Australian rocker, Col Joye, had a late 50s hit with, "Bye, Bye Baby, Goodbye". Did he write it, or someone else? I need to know for liner note credits.

Is it the one Big Brother and the Holding Company sang?

If so, I think one of them wrote it.

No. It was a 1959 hit for Col Joye called "Bye Bye Baby, Goodbye". I think only Australians over the age of 60 or rock/pop archivists of that period will know the answer to this one.

Bye-bye bye-bye bye-bye-baby goodbye
I gotta get a goin', bye-bye bye-baby goodbye
See you in the mornin' at the break of day
Just a little kiss and I'll be on my way
Bye-bye bye-bye bye-bye-baby goodbye

I get so lonely when we're apart
And I love you only, so don't you break my heart

Bye-bye bye-bye bye-bye-baby goodbye
I gotta get a goin', bye-bye bye-baby goodbye
See you in the mornin' at the break of day
Just a little kiss and I'll be on my way
Bye-bye bye-bye bye-bye-baby goodbye

I get so lonely when we're apart
And I love you only, so don't you break my heart

Bye-bye bye-bye bye-bye-baby goodbye
I gotta get a goin', bye-bye bye-baby goodbye
I'm gonna see you in the mornin' at the break of day
Just a little kiss and I'll be on my way
Bye-bye bye-bye bye-bye-baby goodbye
Ah, mmm-mmm mmm-mmm mmm-bye-baby goodbye
La-la la-mmm mmm-bye-baby goodbye

Frank McNulty here... I am the writer of
Bye Bye Baby Goodbye. It was first recorded in 1959 by Sonny Williams in the USA. Col Joye, Australian artist, covered it and made it his first Numb4er 1 hit in Australia. It was soon covered by many other artists and became Number 1 in many countries of the world.

Thanks,
Frank McNulty

To all who are interested in Franks amazing career as a composer-- he wrote and contributed SO MUCH MORE than this one song...we feel this story must be told and his music shared with the world. At 92, Frank is still going strong...waking up every day at 5AM to start jotting down his notes- as he wakes up every morning with music on the brain! Check it out! Frank McNulty- the soon to be told story!

I think the song I know came from Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, released in 1965. The title was Bye Bye Baby (Baby Goodbye) by Bob Crewe and Bob Gaudio. The song was covered by the Bay City Rollers in 1975.

BYE BYE BABY (BABY GOODBYE)
(Bob Crewe & Bob Gaudio)

If you hate me after what I say
Can't put it off any longer
I just gotta tell you anyway

Bye bye baby, baby good-bye
(Bye baby, baby bye bye)
Bye bye baby, baby don't make me cry
(Bye baby, baby bye bye)

You're the one girl in town I'd marry
Girl I'd marry you now if I were free
I wish it could be
I could love you but why begin it
Cause there ain't any future in it
(She's got me and I'm not free so)

Bye bye baby, baby good-bye
(Bye baby, baby bye bye)
Bye bye baby don't make me cry
(Bye baby, baby bye bye)

Guess I never will know you better
Wish I knew you before I met her
Gee, how good you would be for me
Should have told you that I can't linger
There's a wedding ring on my finger
(She's got me and I'm not free so)

Bye bye baby, baby good-bye
(Bye baby, baby bye bye)
Bye bye baby don't make me cry
(Bye baby, baby bye bye)

Ohhhhh, ohhhhhh
Bye, baby bye
Ohhhhh, baby try
Repeat chorus to fade
