Subject: Ballydehob Jazz festival 2010
From: The Sandman
Date: 05 Feb 10 - 01:31 PM

The Ballydehob Jazz festival 2010, will be going ahead.
A new committeee has been formed, and the festival will take place the weekend of may 1/2 2010.
I helped to organise with John Fagan, the festivals for 2007 /2008.
The festival was conceived by John Fagan, and was very much his Idea, and the success of the festival was due to alot of effort on his part
I would like to thank him for for all his hard work for creating and organising the festival.
further details can be obtained by contacting me through my website
Dick Miles.

From the former organiser's web page.

Dear Jazz friends and supporters,

Because of personal differences and after four years of hard work I have decided that it is not worth the financial risk to myself or my family to organise the festival in 2010.

As of yet I sincerely don't know who will be running the Festival but I'm sure if you make inquiries you can find out.

I was always proud of the quality of the national and international musicians I brought to the festival, this has now been seriously undermined and I unfortunately had to cancel musicians whom I think would have made this years festival the best yet.

Again many thanks for your support .

John Fagan

Jayz, Dick, I didn't know you were into the demon Jazz.

Ballydehob, from the Irish; "Béal Átha an Dá Chab" meaning "The Mouth of the Ford of the Two mouths"

What a great name for a jazz festival venue.

And two mouths speaketh here.

Anyway, best of luck with the festival.

Indeed, last nights committee meeting was very positive,a new website is in the process of being set up.
guest artists were discussed, the quality of the musicians will be maintained, and in some peoples opinions improved.
it looks as if the festival will be one of the best yet.

last year the cost of street traders stalls was 60 euros, this year it will probably be 10 euros,of course if traders do well donations would be appreciated.

You need to mend your second link to the new site, Dick. Copy the first one, which is OK.

I was fortunate enough to be living in Brussels during one of their Jazz festivals. Must say that although some of the music was not my cup of tea (modern free form I just couldn't understand) I did enjoy some of the trad. jazz and the atmosphere was as good as any folk festival I have been to.

Good luck in your efforts Mr M.

DeG

If you are in West Cork and are too impatient to wait for your fun at the two festivals in Ballydehob in the second half of April....well, why not pop over to Kilcrohane for Easter Weekend and enjoy the music of the Boat Band ands Twotime Polka (to mention but a few of the acts that will be there).

there is normally a traditional irish music session eveery friday, but of course the pubs are closed on good friday.
however this session is on during the ballydehob tradional music festival ,and Maud has not mentioned it,so although it is not part of the festival it is on,so there is one extra session on during the ballydehob trad festival.
I do not understand why maud does not mention this, this session hasbeen going since 1988,and was started by Cathy Cook, and is on every week it is an open session

Ballydehob Jazz Festival 2010
30th April to 3rd May

Hi everyone,

This year the festival is taking place between 30th April and the 3rd May. There'll be great music in the bars and the streets, a headline concert by Michael Buckley in the hall, and street entertainment and a traders fair where you can sample good food and fine craftwork whilst enjoying the buzz.

Michael Buckley is considered to be the finest saxophonist in Ireland today and we are proud to present him in concert. As well as frequent radio spots, Michael makes numerous television appearances, regularly works on film and television scores, and recently collaborated on recordings with Donovan, the Cranberrys, Jerry Lee Louis and Johnny Mathis.

"A Talent That Demands To Be Heard"

Playing with his Dublin Standard Time band a brilliant night to look forward to.

Andreas Varady the 12 year-old guitar prodigy from Limerick, will be playing in the initimate setting of Levis's bar on the opening Friday. Andreas is making a name for himself in the jazz world and is widely expected to be a major artist in the coming years. A legend in the making – here in Ballydehob!

Ballydehob native, Samuel Hudson, is also making a welcome return. Sam is based in Berlin and works as a freelance musician in Germany and the UK, and it's great
to have him back at the festival with his full quartet line-up.

Another exciting feature this year is the Festival Club Night to be held around Midnight on Sunday 2nd May – a fantastic opportunity to experience musicians from different backgrounds, different bands, and different styles, coming together to create something totally unique and spontaneous.

In all there are sixteen bands or artists performing over 30 gigs in different venues around the village and most of the performances are free. Good music, a relaxed carnival style, and a great way to enjoy the May bank holidaY
