Hmmm... This smacks of Hollywood and Simon Cowell... why not just send twenty quid though paypal like the rest of us, or does that obviate the urge for self promotion????

Paco
I do agree, but if you want to raise a lot of money quickly, then a concert is the best.
I think most people with a conscience will have already donated.
However I never knock anybody who gets off their arse to do something for charity.

Well Paco, for what it is worth,I am over my nostrils in debt due to the recession the stress is quite crippling but this is the only way I can possibly help. So stick your arse back in your comfy chair and gogitate on the possibility of engaging the brain before your fingers and be thankful that you are so well off there are others who are much less fortunate, are you a banker?

The Foresters live in Stockton on the Forest and do this gig a couple of times a year and, as I understand it, raise money for charity, they asked us to help out and we said yes and it just happens that the nominated charity is the Haiti appeal. It is good on a lot of counts, the Village Hall gets used, audience have an evening of music and a charity gets some money, I can't see for the life of me how there are any parallels with Simon Cowell and Hollywood. I happen to have a Mudcat life and share stuff with my friends. But, actually, no, wont waste my fingers. !!!!

I hope it goes well chaps,One of our Local bands has made a cd with songs donated by various artists for free and they have paid for it all out of their own pockets too.
They tell me 100% of the money collected is going to unicef.
19 tracks put together over a weekend I believe.
Concerts,CD or paypal is all good innit?

Pete,

Well done mate. I would have come and supported this but it clashes with something else...... I would also have brought some of the CDs that Tim is referring to above as I have some of them to sell.

Mr O'Barmy, what is your problem? Surely the point here is to raise as much money as possible. Getting people together will probably mean they put their hands in their pockets more than if left to their own devices. And if people have fun doing it.... so much the better. You seem a bit bitter about something?

Date changed on the thread title.

I have my questions about most fundraisers, since overhead eats up most of the "donations." However, a fundraising concert, if done properly, can do a lot to help people become aware of the need.

So, if somebody wants to have a fundraising concert for Haiti, and sings a song or three about Haiti in the process, isn't that a good thing? And if the band makes a name for itself in the process, that's not necessarily a bad thing, either.

Well it raised just short of £2000 with entrance & raffle, place was rammed, a great atmosphere and a great balance of performers, I thoroughly enjoyed the audience I hope they enjoyed it too!
