Subject: Folk CLubs in New Zealnd From: BoatinWend Date: 07 Feb 10 - 03:33 PM We are going to New Zealand in March for the first time. Can anyone suggest some folk clubs we might visit? We will be in Taupo for a week, Wellington for a weekend and then mostly on south island until we travel back north to Auckland |
Subject: RE: Folk CLubs in New Zealnd From: GUEST,Nikkiwi Date: 07 Feb 10 - 08:19 PM There are a number of folk clubs in NZ worth visiting Your Best bet is to check out: http://kiwifolk.org.nz and look at their list of folk clubs. It's pretty up to date, and you should be able to find some that fit your itinerary Cheers |

Subject: RE: Folk CLubs in New Zealnd From: Tattie Bogle Date: 08 Feb 10 - 08:07 PM We went to one in Christchurch in 2005: in a pub on a Friday evening: very friendly, we'd gone by bus and ended up getting a lift back nearly to our hotel on the other side of town with one of the regulars. A mixture of music and dancing, but to our standards finsihed very early at 10.30.pm! Found out about it from reading the local paper "The Christchurch Herald" I think! |

Subject: RE: Folk CLubs in New Zealnd From: vectis Date: 09 Feb 10 - 07:08 PM Make a note of the clubs, nights and contact number. They are really really helpful down there. Aukland Folk club every Friday is a bitch to find but very good. |

Subject: RE: Folk CLubs in New Zealand From: Martin Graebe Date: 10 Feb 10 - 09:14 AM Do go to the Devonport Folk Music Club at 'The Bunker'. Amazing setting on the top of Mount Victoria looking out over Auckland Harbour. Roger Giles is a very welcoming host and the club has it's own library, which is open during the evening. Every Monday night, 8 p.m. Martin |
Subject: RE: Folk CLubs in New Zealand From: Little Robyn Date: 10 Feb 10 - 01:53 PM Have you looked at this page? There are some mistakes - old, outdated info in a few places but it gives a general picture of the clubs operating now. Most of the action is in Auckland, some in Wellington, not much here in Hawke's Bay, almost none in Taupo and only in specific spots down south (like Cardrona or Lyttelton), unless you're looking for a Morris side. There sre local sessions like the one on Tuesday nights here in Hastings but they're usually informal and not included in this list. Robyn |
