On a dance list someone suggested a simple progessive circle dance only 16 bars through each turn, to the tune Deep in the Heart of Texas.
Promenade partner, clap 4 times, swing the one on left.

Repeat with this new partner.

I thought this would be pretty boring if all you remembered was the first 16 bars of the lyrics (assuming anyone remembers it at all).

So does anyone remember it - I've searched but found nothing.

Music : Don Swander

Lyrics:
X = Clap

The stars at night are big and bright, X X X X
Deep In the Heart of Texas

The Prairie Sky, is Wide and High, X X X X
Deep In the Heart of Texas

The Sage in bloom is like perfume, X X X X
Deep in the Heart of Texas

Reminds me of the one I love, X X X X
Deep in the Heart of Texas

The Coyotes wail along the trail, X X X X
Deep in the Heart of Texas

The rabbits rush around the brush
Deep in the Heart of Texas

The cowboys cry, "Ki-yip-pee Yi" X X X X
Deep in the Heart of Texas

The Dogies bawl, and bawl and bawl X X X X
Deep In the Heart of Texas

That's why, perhaps, they all wear chaps

I've got it on cassette. Chester Library used to have it on CD but it's vanished from the catalogue. Would you like me to transcribe it or let you have a copy of the tape?

There are quite a few versions on YouTube. Here's one

Gene Autry sings "Deep in the Heart of Texas"

Great.
Thanks for finding that.

I remember it as being irritatingly popular way back. Would anyone younger know it?

I found lyric listings for fairly recent country singers and would say it's probably been recorded a few times within the last ten years or so.

A couple lines were used in "PeeWee's Big Adventure".
