Bray singers (formerly North Wicklow Singers Circle) are meeting in the Strand Hotel, Seafront, Bray on Saturday 16th May at 9.30pm. Your support would be very much appreciated.

We had a wonderful anti re-session session last month with a lot of cherrful songs. A truly great night.

What a wonderful place to have a session! I took the D.A.R.T. train to Bray at sunset one summer evening, and I couldn't believe what a beautiful ride that was.
Does the new singers' circle have a Website, George? All I found was this (click).

Yes that dart run is spectacular as long as you are not doing it in rush hour.

We are just over a year old. We called ourselves North Wicklow Singers Circle in case our venue did not work out and the name gave us more options. But the venue has worked out so we decided to rename ourselves as the session takes place in Bray itself.

I was formerly involved with the Nenagh Singers Circle and when i moved to Bray we started this session. It is working out very well.

Hope you can visit some time Joe. Third Saturday of every month.

Next time you're in Dublin, you should try to fit it so that you could take the DART South to Bray for George's session, head back to the city for the weekly Goilín - then take the DART North to Howth where there's also an excellent monthly session. If the days didn't quite match up, you could squeeze in a few lighthouses on the way...

The sessions in Bray have been excellant. Wonderful venue, wonderful atmosphere, wonderful songs, but most of all wonderful people. If Mudcatters can get a chance to catch it then they should not miss a visit. Best of luck Saturday George, I can't make it this month but I will be there in June.

Oh, I took D.A.R.T. to Howth, and the Bailey Light was one of the most spectacular lighthouses I have ever seen. Lots of wildflowers and purple heather on the trail, and the Irish Sea was smooth as glass.
But taking D.A.R.T. south from Dublin at sunset was the most beautiful train ride I have ever taken in my life.
Yeah, I liked Dublin a lot, and Martin Ryan was one of the people who made my visit so wonderful.

When were you in Dublin? I'm sorry I missed you. When you come back again? we will have to meet up and make aquaintence. Did you get to the Góilín? Forget that Martin Ryan fella, did you meet the wonderful Josephine? Voice of a goddess and she can play the fiddle as well (although now that I think about it I've never seen her do both at the one time, but it wouldn't suprise me if she can). All that Martin Ryan fella wants to do is drink pints and sing lefty songs. I don't know what people see in him atall, atall!

We tell people it's the Kinvara Area Music cooperative but of course its really the Kinvara Anarcho-syndicalist Militia and one of these days (I think it's next Tuesday but we don't keep minutes, of course - being anarchists), the revolution will start. Until then, we'll stick to the pints.

I just got back from a month (almost) in Ireland with thrilling times at the Ulster Traditional Singers' Weekend in Creggan, Co. Tyrone and the Joe Heaney festival in Carna as well as visits to the Ballyvourney area of west Cork, and Belfast. I did pass through Dublin but not on a weekend. Knowing of these two sessions will put Dublin toward the top of my destinations list for my visit next year.

One problem with holiday visitors looking for singing sessions is that many of the latter close for the months of July and August. Between that and the fact that most are held just once a month, a bit of planning is required. That said, Dave, if you fit in as much next time as you did on your recent visit, you'll have seen more of the scene than most people!

We run right through in Bray. We do not close in July and August. Gives us something to do on those lazy hot summers nights we are so accustomed to here in Ireland. It aslo gives tourists from Kinvara a chance to see how beautiful the seaside town of Bray is and How good their singers are.

Hi all

I was at the session in Bray last night. It very well attended. I have never heard Niamh Parsons sing as well, she was imperious. Every note was perfect and the variety of songs was excellent. Graham Dunne just gets better with every hearing. If you get a chance to hear either or both of them, don't miss it.

It was a mighty night. Thanks to all concerned that organise the Bray Singers' Circle; Pat Burke, George Henderson and Alan Stout. (that's in alphabetical order so let there be no jealousy between you three lads) well done.

Bray Singers meet on Saturday 19th December at 9.00pm at the Strand Hotel, Seafront, Bray.

Our guest On Saturday is the famous Luke Cheevers, stalwart member of An Góilín, the Dublin singers club, for nearly 30 years. Luke is a unique and wonderful character as well as great singer and is recommended.

Note the slightly earlier start to facilitate a glass of mulled wine prior to the session.

Thanks for the kind words Herga. A long way to travel and quite expensive with boat costs and diesel etc. But worth it once in a while and I did enjoy myself. Lovely food at extremely reasonable cost for the weekend.

Bray Singers Circle meets on this coming Saturday 18th Feb in the Strand Hotel Bray atarting at 9 pm.

In addition to the usual fun I will be shaving for cancer (both head and beard). I have sported the beard for 48 years now so it will eb a bit of a wrench if not downright painful btu i aim to collect as much as possible. I set a modest target of 500 euro abd I have already reached 809 euro so I am not doing too badly

Our next singing meeting is on Saturday 16th February in the Strand Hotel Seafront Bray at 9pm.

Please note an additional event. The Keelers, Shantymen from Newcastle upon Tyne will be our special guests on Saturday 2nd March at the Starnd Hotel, Seafront Bray at 9pm. These are a great group of lads and well worth listening to. They sing a range of songs, not confined to the shanties at which they excel.
