Subject: Fleetwood Mac - Oh Well Parts 1 & 2 From: Dave the Gnome Date: 17 Feb 10 - 11:07 AM Just listening to both parts of this grand oldie from Fleetwood Mac before the girls replaced Peter Green ( ;-S ) Part 1 would be welcomed, I think, at any rock/blues club and even the more liberal folk clubs. Part 2 is completely different. In it's own way a cracker but seemingly out of step with most of FM's other stuff and, seemingly, nothing to do with part 1. Anyone got any insights as to why they did this? Cheers DeG |
Subject: RE: Fleetwood Mac - Oh Well Parts 1 & 2 From: mousethief Date: 17 Feb 10 - 11:28 AM No insight but I have always thought the two together would make an awesome music video. Starts with guy drinking beer in a dive bar while a funky band (maybe behind chicken wire) is playing this wild music in 17/12 time (or whatever it is). He gets up and goes outside for some air, and the music changes. He turns back around and the bar is gone. He turns back around and the town is gone: it's just him on the sand. Then he wanders, sun beating down on him, becomes caked in sweat, etc., until finally he crawls back into the bar, where a different band is playing this ethereal music. Just as the music ends the bartender tells him, "I told you it was a mistake to drink so many beers in a row on such a hot day." O..O =o= |

Subject: RE: Fleetwood Mac - Oh Well Parts 1 & 2 From: alanabit Date: 17 Feb 10 - 11:55 AM It is actually quite logical when you know the story. Peter Green met a girl who remarked upon her "ordinariness" and thought she had "skinny" legs. The young Peter Green started going out with her and she took him to a classical music concert. The first part tells the story of the original meeting at a gig and the second part is meant to evoke the atmosphere of the classical concert. I happen to think it is a wonderful piece of music too. |
Subject: RE: Fleetwood Mac - Oh Well Parts 1 & 2 From: mousethief Date: 17 Feb 10 - 12:03 PM The second part has always seemed to me to have essences of a Mexican western movie. (Hence my music video) O..O =o= |
Subject: RE: Fleetwood Mac - Oh Well Parts 1 & 2 From: Dave the Gnome Date: 17 Feb 10 - 02:36 PM Don't you laugh about the state I'm in. I can't sing, I ain't pretty and my legs are thin. Ahhhh - All makes sense now:-) Thanks alanabit. Is my memory skewed or does 'Layla' (Derek and the Dominoes / Eric Clapton) do something similar? Ie - wanders off into slow classical mode? Cheers DeG |
Subject: RE: Fleetwood Mac - Oh Well Parts 1 & 2 From: Smedley Date: 17 Feb 10 - 02:39 PM Not really 'classical' but it does slow down, become piano-led and (to be blunt) go on a bit!! I'd always thought the two bits of 'Oh well' related to the differing drug experiences Peter Green had 'encountered'..... |
Subject: RE: Fleetwood Mac - Oh Well Parts 1 & 2 From: Dave the Gnome Date: 17 Feb 10 - 02:47 PM Incidentaly - It os a 'greatest hits' compilation sometime after the two bits of 'Oh Well' is 'Dragonfly'. Can't say I remember it first time round but that is a cracker as well! Here it is if anyone's interested. Highly recommended from this rocking bluesy Gnome:-) Or I have it on MP3 if anyone is interested. Not that I would illegaly share it of course but if you PM me I can not send it you... :-) DeG |

Subject: RE: Fleetwood Mac - Oh Well Parts 1 & 2 From: GUEST,keberoxu Date: 16 Jul 20 - 11:04 PM An online review of the Peter Green tribute concert, early 2020 at the London Palladium, says that the concert's MC and organizer, Mick Fleetwood, recruited Dave Gilmour to play, amongst other things, Part Two of Oh Well, and later, Albatross. And Fleetwood, according to the review, made a point of announcing from the stage that Oh Well Part Two was being performed live in public for the first time EVER. Oh, and there were murmurings that Peter Green agreed to attend the performance on the condition that he be allowed to remain private and anonymous. So, no brief splashy acknowledgement of Green from the stage. We'll never know, I suppose. Green is said to have a home in South London (Richmond?) where others look in on him, and after him; and as long as his privacy is respected, he is emotionally even and stable, and mentally sharp. Likes to go fishing and to paint. |
Subject: RE: Fleetwood Mac - Oh Well Parts 1 & 2 From: Bonzo3legs Date: 18 Jul 20 - 02:13 AM I saw Peter Green in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers several times, and PG's Fleetwood Mac at Windsor Festival - their debut, and several times around London. First time I saw him with Mayall, he played just like Clapton's blues phrasing, but 6 months later had changed totally to his own style, which nobody has equalled since. I came close, I was told, and more recently Aynsley Lister is very good. |
