Subject: RE: If I Had A Band I'd Call It....... From: Rusty Dobro Date: 17 Feb 10 - 03:55 PM I have often been accused, with good reason, of being a member of the 'Trembling Wheelbarrows' ( still to be found by the unwary on Youtube) but sometimes, late at night, our beloved front-man Doc Cox metamorpheses, to the disgust of any sentient members of the audience, into the identity of Ivor Biggun, which makes the rest of us 'Ivor's Jivers'. Otherwise I'm quite normal. |
Subject: RE: If I Had A Band I'd Call It....... From: Uncle_DaveO Date: 17 Feb 10 - 02:53 PM Not particularly funny, like many of the above, but actually my group, if I had one, would be The Storysingers. Dave Oesterreich |

Subject: RE: If I Had A Band I'd Call It....... From: Nancy King Date: 17 Feb 10 - 02:03 PM Some friends of mine (two Brits and a Yank) had a very short-lived group called "Warm Beer." One of the Brits insisted it should have been called "Free Beer." "Just think of the advertising potential," he said, "'Tonight -- Free Beer!'" |
Subject: RE: If I Had A Band I'd Call It....... From: Smedley Date: 17 Feb 10 - 01:56 PM The late John Peel (legendary BBC DJ) once claimed he saw a band in Texas called Stark Naked the the Car Thieves. Probably too good to be true. |
Subject: RE: If I Had A Band I'd Call It....... From: Rasener Date: 17 Feb 10 - 01:46 PM Well as I had one today, I would call my band The Flexible Cystoscopies |
Subject: RE: If I Had A Band I'd Call It....... From: frogprince Date: 17 Feb 10 - 01:43 PM Last fall we heard a country group in a pavilion at the local cidermill/antique store complex. They were mid-age and older, just farmers or working stiffs, but actually very good. They performed as "The Porta-Potty Pickers". |
Subject: RE: If I Had A Band I'd Call It....... From: Bill D Date: 17 Feb 10 - 01:34 PM Some local folks got together to perform one number at a sing.. they introduced themselves as "The Acapella String Band" |
Subject: RE: If I Had A Band I'd Call It....... From: GUEST,Ray Date: 17 Feb 10 - 01:18 PM We used to rehearse in a record storage warehouse during the punk era. Had many a laugh searching the shelves for unusual names. "Throbbing Gristle" comes to mind along with "Walter Mitty and His Little White Lies". |
Subject: RE: If I Had A Band I'd Call It....... From: Surreysinger Date: 17 Feb 10 - 01:10 PM Some friends and I several years ago were whiling away the afternoon and decided that if we formed a band it would be called Pope Shenouda... possibly not good taste, as he is a real live figure and Pope of Alexandria, head of the Coptic Church. One of our number had been talking about his experiences working in Africa, and had mentioned the name of this particular Head of Church... and the sound of the name just resonated and appealed at the time. (Since all the other members of the group were choral singers, I think it was unlikely ever to be). In terms of real live band names, I've always rather liked the idea of the Lost Teeshirts of Atlantis. |
Subject: RE: If I Had A Band I'd Call It....... From: GUEST Date: 17 Feb 10 - 01:04 PM There's an alternative, all female rock band named 'The Cunning Stunts'. |
Subject: RE: If I Had A Band I'd Call It....... From: GUEST,Spleen Cringe Date: 17 Feb 10 - 12:41 PM A metal band called Fecal Boulder... |

Subject: RE: If I Had A Band I'd Call It....... From: mousethief Date: 17 Feb 10 - 12:17 PM There was a doo-wop band in the early 1960s called "The Shit" which as you can imagine didn't help their sales any. They flopped immediately after putting out their first 45 under that title. Which is unfortunate because they had had a hit or two under a previous name. Which I am completely failing to rediscover -- as you can imagine searching "The Shit" gets a lot of hits, but none about a very obscure early-1960's ill-named doo-wop group. So my imaginary band wouldn't have that name. We'd be... Eponymous First Album. O..O =o= |
Subject: RE: If I Had A Band I'd Call It....... From: frogprince Date: 17 Feb 10 - 12:11 PM From what I heard, they, unlike "Bare Naked Ladies", were never accused of false advetising. |
Subject: RE: If I Had A Band I'd Call It....... From: Acorn4 Date: 17 Feb 10 - 12:09 PM When the age of cassette tapes was at its height I had the idea of a band called "Head Cleaner". |
Subject: RE: If I Had A Band I'd Call It....... From: frogprince Date: 17 Feb 10 - 12:08 PM Please don't take this personal, Smedley, but you might be pretty much limited to venues where "Buck Naked and the Bare-Ass Boys" used to perform. |
Subject: RE: If I Had A Band I'd Call It....... From: Melissa Date: 17 Feb 10 - 11:59 AM My friend and I have an imaginary band which was also sparked by something I read here. Arrogant Horseshit |
Subject: If I Had A Band I'd Call It....... From: Smedley Date: 17 Feb 10 - 11:57 AM Now I know lots of you already do have bands, or groups, but as a non-performer I have often mulled over what I might call a combo I belonged to..... And then, in the middle of a very serious thread elsewhere in here that I had no wish to interrupt with my facetious humour, the ideal band name leapt out at me. Se would you please give a big old Mudcat welcome to: The Occasional Fuckbuddies. (Not sure how many bookings we'd get in the Midwest.) |
