Subject: RE: Chantey Books Wanted From: Joe Offer Date: 28 Feb 10 - 11:02 PM I was wondering if either might be available at Google Books, but they aren't. But I did find The music of the waters: A collection of the sailors' chanties, or working songs of the sea, of all maritime nations, by Laura Alexandrine Smith, 1888. Oh, and check out The Shanty book. You can purchase the Seven Seas Shanty Book through bookfinder.copm, but it ain't cheap. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Chantey Books Wanted From: ichMael Date: 28 Feb 10 - 11:21 PM I'm no expert on doing Abebooks searches, but these links might help: http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?an=Frederick+J.&sortby=17&sts=t&tn=SAILORS+SONGS&x=38&y=13 http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?bi=0&bx=off&ds=30&recentlyadded=all&sortby=17&sts=t&tn=SEVEN+SEAS+SHANTY+BOOK&x=37 Good luck. |

Subject: RE: Chantey Books Wanted From: doc.tom Date: 01 Mar 10 - 04:08 AM Worldwide search - we always go to: http://www.bookfinder4u.com/used_book_stores.html. Got all the shanty books we needed to cross-reference the Short, Sharpo Shanties project there! TomB |

Subject: RE: Chantey Books Wanted From: Mr Red Date: 01 Mar 10 - 10:03 AM Songs of the Sailor & Lumberman - William Main Doerflinger. If you are really into Shanties I would check-out the videos that were made of Stan Hugill et al. One listen/watch of Rueben Ranzo and you would become a accuracy pedant at any folk club. Singing and working at the same time is not embellishment, it is breath, and stretch, and rhythm. Shanties in Folk Clubs will be far too pretty after one viewing. Well worth the search, they used to sell VHS tapes from a Dutch shop. I have seen the website. |
