Hi,

I've been looking at Crow Jane and was wondering what the origin is. What are some early versions?

Anyone have lyrics esp from the SC area artist- Davis, Anderson, Daniels, Walker, Nesbitt, or McClintock?

I like skip James version- it's a bit different than how I learned it.

I was figuring this is one of the early blues, related to East St. Louis Blues and also found as Pistol Blues. I'd love the lyrics to Pistol Blues (Bo Jackson- 1926) which may be the first version of Crow Jane recorded.

WC Handy dates the form back to 1892. Does this date to the 1800s? How about the slang word- Crow Jane- when is that first used?

I recently did a version of it on youtube:
