I read over on Celtic Footstompin Forum, that Archie Fisher is to be replace on BBC Scotland's Travelling Folk. Apparently he announced it himself on last week's programme. It gonna be another big mistake from the Beeb.

I believe he didn't say why, it could be at his own instigation.

Archie's been on holiday & had time to reflect, besides which he deserves to enjoy 'retirement' and have time to be free to go when & where he likes.

There are many excellent people who have held the reins when he's been on his breaks before and I'd be happy to see the hosting done on a shared basis to allow those Folk folks a chance to fit it in with their touring schedules.

Archie has indeed decided it's time for him to have time to himself. No big mystery after all these years; his own wise choice.

Archie Fisher is on the bill for Fylde Folk Festival. Appearing Saturday 4th September, afternoon and evening concerts at the Marine Hall, Fleetwood. Archie was a popular visitor to the Fylde area and the festival in the seventies and eighties, this is his first return for a while. Looking forward to hearing him again.

I have heard him several times in the past few weeks and believe me, he is in fine form and voice.

BBC Radio Scotland's Celtic Zone had a 330 minute retrospective with highlights of Archie Fisher's broadcasting--it's on the iplayer:

Archie told me he has a plateful of plans ahead of him and is looking forward to some grand adventures. The man is hale and hearty and ready for some very interesting projects.

One of Archie's plans will be to attend as the main guest at the first Rolling Hills Festival in Melrose, Scottish Borders on July 24th. The originator of this thread Bob Knight will be appearing on the Friday night. As you can well imagine we are really looking forward to the weekend of music.
