Gil Scott Heron's father was the first black guy to play for Glasgow Celtic.

The new album is out. How do I know? It's playing right now as I type. The good news is that after his "wilderness years" he's definitely back on form. The even better news is that I have a ticket for the Manchester gig... and hopefully he will play a blinder (which will also make up for the last time I saw him - also during the wilderness years).

A bit more trivia - he went to the same high school as Carly Simon (but he's a bit younger, I don't know if they overlapped).

To me,
Gil is always best on the upbeat stuff like Lady Day/John Coltrane. The Me and the Devil video and song styling is a little grim. But I have always loved GSH. Whatever happened to Brian Jackson?

Michael Marra does a great new song about his dad called 'The Flight of the Heron'
