Subject: RE: Tribute To A Country Great!-waltz across texas... From: GUEST,bankley Date: 05 Mar 10 - 10:40 PM "Let's say goodbye like we said 'hello' in a friendly kind of way" a few years back I was on a slide, steel guitar workshop at the Calgary Folk Fest.. there was a gang of dobro players, lap steel swingbillies, bottleneck sliders, the usual suspects... when it came to my turn, I decided decided to sing and just chord rhythm.. the song I picked was 'Walking the Floor'... I did a good ET impersonation, everyone knew the song and the crowd was singing along... one of those songs I remembered from my youth... it was much appreciated |
Subject: RE: Tribute To A Country Great!-waltz across texas... From: topical tom Date: 05 Mar 10 - 02:59 PM I used to love hearing Ernest Tubb sing "I'm Walking the Floor Over You" accompanied only on his acoustic guitar as well as "Before I Met You" and many others including "Waltz Across Texas With You". He was a great country singer, one of my favourites. |
Subject: RE: Tribute To A Country Great!-waltz across texas... From: GUEST,bankley Date: 05 Mar 10 - 02:28 PM fine lyric..Gene. I like ET a lot.. he had a great band with some hot pickers... esp Billy Byrd, who went on to co-design the Gibson Byrdland guitar with Hank Garland.. .The closest I ever got to him was watching Marty Stuart abruptly end the conversation we were having backstage at a festival to run after that black tour bus which he bought from ET and fixed up.. it was pulling out without him, but stopped when he banged on the door..it probably happened a few times to Ernest as well... |
Subject: RE: Tribute To A Country Great!-waltz across texas... From: Arkie Date: 04 Mar 10 - 09:45 PM The song is a fine tribute to one of the all time greats of country music. The mention of Ernest Tubb calls to mind a line from Thom Bresh: "I knew Ernest when he was just a bucket". |

Subject: RE: Tribute To A Country Great! From: Murray MacLeod Date: 04 Mar 10 - 04:12 AM One of the greats for sure, and never a man to feel constricted by considerations of accurate pitch while singing. |
Subject: RE: Tribute To A Country Great! From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 03 Mar 10 - 11:32 PM Ernest Tubb was high on my list of favourites! When I made my pilgrimage to Nashville I visited both of his music shops and his late night jamboree, but sadly he was long gone to Heaven by then! I too would like to know the tune for this song. |
Subject: RE: Tribute To A Country Great! From: Melissa Date: 03 Mar 10 - 05:26 PM How does the tune go, Gene? Is it like 'Waltz Across Texas'? (I hummed and can't quite get it to fit) |
Subject: ADD: He'll Waltz Across Texas No More (Jim Owen) From: Gene Date: 03 Mar 10 - 05:23 PM HE'LL WALTZ ACROSS TEXAS NO MORE (Written by Jim Owen) Now at last it's happened, What I feared for so long An era is over and E. T. is gone So swing wide those pearly gates And say welcome troubador He'll waltz across texas no more. What a grand reunion In heaven there must be As Hank and Jimmie Rodgers say welcome E. T. He's joined all the great ones Who's gone on before He'll waltz across texas no more. No more driftwood on the river Or I'll get along somehow No rainbow at midnight When the world turned you down And no filipino baby or walkin' the floor He'll waltz across texas no more. [spoken] E. T.], I wanted to write a special song for you Because you were such a special man to us You helped so many of us And everyong whose life you touched Remembered he was loved So rest in peace E. T., you've earned it [SUNG] You'll waltz across texas no more. [Bridge] And long live your mem'ry and long live your name From now on country music won't ever be the same E. T., we're gonna miss you and those texas troubadors You'll waltz across texas no more. Tag You'll waltz across texas no more. Email: cn8gv9@aim.com for mp3. |
