From: Tattie Bogle Date: 09 Jun 10 - 07:59 AM As Don says the Bedford has a very mixed session in the main bar: there was one afternoon a couple of years ago when it turned into "Concertinas Rule OK", and most of the rest voted with their feet! After many years of going to the Bedford I eventually discovered the late night "inner sanctum" where the serious singers go! And there's the small dining room where the professional players usually end up. Smokers seem to head for the Swan as there's the outdoor bit at the back, albeit under a canopy, where they make up for the smoking ban elsewhere! |

The Faulkner = the Faulkner bar of the Royal York & Faulkner hotel. The morning singarounds run from 10.30am to 12.30pm Sunday to Friday and Rosy's evening sessions Friday to Friday (as far as I know). The Ashby de la Zouch folk club reunion (open to all) will take place in the Volunteer garden on the first Friday evening. Kitty |

The main bar at the Bedford is, and always has been, a mixed session. Five minute sets of tunes interspersed with plenty of opportunity for singers. For example here I have nearly 1,000 incoming messages stored, and on most Joomla systems I've seen total mailbox size (incoming and outgoing) is limited to 100 messages. Also at least one of the Volvo forums had a total loss of data due to (I think) a software problem and that would be most annoying: here there have been glitches but usually eventually stuff has finished up back where it ought to be. I would personally say that a sub-forum system would be counter-productive. There is a significant merit in easy cross-fertilisation, and in may sub-forum systems things get posted several times in separate sub-forums so as to find thiere "audience". Also actually finding something is much harder if you have to burrow through sub-forums. |

As to the River Sid - I am gratified to say that last week I met my hosts from last year at another thing, and they kindly invited me to stay again, with no arm twisting. So once again I will aim to appear about Freddy lunchtime and vanish some time Sunday, time in between spent in fringes. I'll use the twin cam this year, not the turbo - unless the twin-cam-turbo is finished by then but I don't expect it to be. Has anyone got a subscription to met-check so we can start early wevva predictions? |

At least it means people really care about this festival.... a lot. And as is quite normal with all humans, change is often met with some negative feedback. Please don't take it to heart. I should think the new system for steward application will run more smoothly next year. My only problem with it, was the photo upload didn't like the browser I used. So I switched from google chrome to internet explorer and it worked a treat. Sometimes it is something so simple as you mentioned with emails being dumped into junk folders or my browser prob. So if we discuss here, we can sort each other's technical issues out. |

Val had her stewards number and photo request soon after. I on the other hand, have had nothing!! No official acceptance form, no stewards number and no request to upload a photo! Does ANYBODY know what is going on please? Some people have already been told where they will be stewarding! It is eight weeks until the start of the festival! We were lucky enough to find another venue for singarounds, though on fewer days and for less time, and on the fringe. Anonymously slagging off the current festival organisers for scheduling a different workshop this year isn't very constructive. If you can find another venue, I'd guess it would be advertised in the programme..? Kitty |

You may find "a sniff of disorganisation" off-putting, but many festivals would also find traders who regularly slag them off in public forums (because this is not the first time) equally off-putting. If you are not happy with the terms you were offered, that is unfortunate. I have come into this thread on several occasions to try to be helpful and answer questions, but I think it's time I stepped back to focus on doping what I do best, which is programming the festival. Have I mentioned that ticket sales are up by 21% this year? Hurrah! So there are clearly a few people out there who are looking forward to coming along. We have lots of brand new caterers this year who will be offering a great range of food and drink to festival-goers across all of our sites, and lots of exciting new events for them to enjoy. Activities don't get going in the Blackmoor Gardens till mid day and usually empties around 5.00. Other caterers at the Ham sell a variety of products and have passing trade till gone mid night. For an odd reason I've been compared with them. Weather wise it can be very unstable, not actually opening for one day last year because of the rain; rain for me means no customers. This is the risk I take. Hey, life's too short to get upset about losing this one. I also received an email from the venue organiser who had omitted to delete the previous email he'd had from a collegue about me being there. It wasn't nice. I don't think they want me there and i'm wondering if the pitch's already gone to my competition. We'll see. I really don't mind and will pop over anyway for a good sing in the Middle Bar. |

This decision has nothing to do with age, it's to do with creating a workshop that fulfils the brief of a ceilidh workshop. Changing the focus of one workshop series in a festival containing around 600 events is hardly "chasing youth at the expense of more mature festival-goers". The festival as a whole covers a wider range of activities and interests than any other festival in England, and will continue to do so - and at the same time it will continue to grow, and develop, and change. It is not about stifling discussion. The decision has been made and I have explained why, so there is really no point going round in circles. And given some of your other (quite personal) remarks, including one in your opening post, I'm afraid I don't believe you when you say you're not a regular Mudcat member, "Guest". Not that it particularly matters as I don't intend to discuss this matter any further with you. |

I do know that the festival is gradually moving from a position of debt (accrued over several years) to one of financial stability, and there will be many factors which contribute to the new stability. Increased pitch fees are clearly one of them.
