I have been asked by a couple who are due to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary if I have an Irish song which includes a line about the wife saying it would be a good idea if the husband could wear the suit they got married in??? He had it on a cd in his car but his car was broken into and the CDs were stolen? Any help tracking this down please? Thank You

Oh gosh.......sorry this one is over! Just popped in and was interested in this thread and lo and behold it's been resolved!

Just wanted to comment (for future reference?) I also love, "WHEN I GROW TOO OLD TO DREAM" (quite beautiful) and would think that the classic, "ALWAYS" would, er...uh...always be appropriate.

Can't remember who recorded it, but "Look At Us" - that's a good one too.

Well, thanks all for your input. She got whatever she wanted & so I sang Joe Heaney's version of "RED IS THE ROSE" not so in keeping with the party but she's the host. Hi, Lynn; nice to see you here, you do a great job on "Lovely Agnes" & it's nice but I don't know it, I'll have to steal it from you along with your version of "YELLOW GALS/Doddle Let Me Go". It's not Irish but Dan Seals' "ONE FRIEND" is a great song for the occassion, (Ask my wife of 30 years)

Also not Irish, but my favorite anniversary songs, is Randy Travis' "FOREVER AND EVER AMEN." Great love lyrics.

There is a wonderful Irish tune in my head somewhere. I'll try to dredge it out this afternoon.

Mick Bracken's song looks to me like a version of the Scottish song "Happy Friendship" which Willy Scott, the Scots shepherd, used to sing wonderfully well. We thank you for that text, Mick! Caroline and I have a truncated version which I learned from Paul Clayton, who had it from his family (grandfather?) in New Bedford, Massachusetts. In fact, we sang it at BBC's party for Bill Sables last weekend.

For anniversaries, we often sing Bruce (Utah) Phillips' "HYMN SONG." Seems appropriate, with words like:

I believe if I lived my life again
I'd still be here with you.

This isn't a song, but a good slightly off-colour toast I once made at a 50th wedding anniversary (the original source was Ronnie Hawkins, the Canadian rockabilly singer).

They all got a big kick out of it. Of course, it depends on the crowd!!!!

..sorry for the thread creep, but I've been trying to find the appropriate symbol for an institution's 75th anniversary. As far as I can see, the ones used for weddings don't go up that high. Gold for 50; Diamond for 60 etc.
Any florists, greetings cards experts, out there with any ideas?

Dave Para: guitar, lead vocal; Ed Trickett: piano, vocal; Additional chorus vocals: Cathy Barton, Caroline Paton, Sandy Paton, Harry Tuft Lee Ruth has been playing and teaching music in central Missouri for many years, and several players owe some of their first guitar and banjo chords to him, Cathy and I among them. Lee plays guitar with wonderful invention and versatility and sings with a warm, honest voice.
