I got this message from a Mudcatter:

I can't get on to the main forum page as my work Firewall has just come down with a clang! Is there a thread title with some kind of profanity in it? Am I missing anything???

Is anybody experiencing the same thing? I suppose I could tell the person to seek advice from his IT professional at work....but maybe he's not supposed to be Mudcatting at work.

Any advice?

Could it be the Google ads? Note that the problem is with accessing the Forum Menu, and I don't think the Forum Menu Google ads have changed recently. As far as I can tell, the only change in ads, is on the BS pages. My main intent in this thread is to collect data that I can send on to Max, so he'll know the nature and extent of the problem.

The nannywall where I work seems quite random in what it allows and forbids; it seems quite happy with some discussion groups, blogs and so on, but blocks others of impeccably useful technical content. I suspect that Mudcat is a chance victim of an algorithm installed to show that Something Is Being Done.

well, work firewalls are a special case. Those are complex things with settings designed by the business. I know several folks who used to be able to almost anything from work, but now have restrictions set.

In some cases, they are able to monitor exactly what sites have been accessed ... and how often... and decided whether those have any bearing on work. (mean of them, huh?)

I suppose the person is reluctant to ASK the boss why they can't get here? ;>)
