...just seen Bron's confession re: Sospan Fach! There's shameful, girl! Despite being a Brummie, I came away from 3 years in Cardiff with Cosher Bailey and Sospan Fach implanted in my brain! There's an English & Welshlish (ie phonetic Welsh) version in the DT. I've probably got the Welsh written down somewhere... or were you just being modest?
Ever tried penyllion[spelling?] with voice and kazoo instead of harp? We could liven up this Tavern? No? Oh, all right then! Hwyl RtZ

Thanks to your kind words, bbc, the boss has bought me a new tanker with bull bars, and a copy of the A-Z of the Galaxy for when you move again. He's trying out a new line in root beer flavour jello, as the Guiness bath seemed to be an aquired taste (and Mick's aquired most of it, I see).
He's not sure if velcro jumping while under the affluence of incohol breaches a city ordinance so you better move again soon.
Well, I'll just have a pickmeup, if I fail a breath test I'll blame the lab, get Legal Eagle to defend me, and there must be a Mudcat boffin who can prove my metabolism naturally produces high levels of blood in my alcohol stream.
Now I'll sit here quietly working out my top 10 jazz albums: Hot 5s; Bechet, Louis and the Clarence Williams Blue 5;Oscar Peterson Night Train;Jimmy Giuffre Train and the River;Basie Atomic Mr Basie;Ellington 40th Anniversary concert....open the cage. Perhaps the blues list is easier: Fred McDowell, Broonzy, Leadbelly, Bessie Smith, Sonny & Brownie, Elmore, Robert Johnson, Jesse Fuller, Howlin Wolf, John Lee....but which albums??? NO, it's no good, I'll try and think up some Deep Thoughts while PeterT is on holiday. No, shallow thoughts are my speciality. I'll stick to jello delivering I think!

Wait, dammit, WAIT! You will not close this bar until I have consumed one Baba Brau courtesy of Catspaw and two jiggers of nectar sent over by Mick. Thanks, guys...and Leej, I hope that Jack who may have Mudcat privileges wherever he is isn't offended: after all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, they say. And I did read two of his books back then, and sit on the floor to drink chianti and eat cheese and french bread, which somehow I associated with being Beat back then, and a few years later I wandered into City Lights bookstore but didn't find Ferlinghetti so I wandered up to where the statue of Saint Francis used to be: the birds were still there, anyway. --seed

Let me close all the windows before we teleport to Round 6. Last time all of the tablecloths got caught in the vortex and were scattered all over Tiple Street. Alright, let me just assume the full Lotus position. Now bbc, click your heels together three times and say " there's no place like home... there's no place like home..."

seed... damn you to hell but that was pretty close to the truth. I haven't read any Jack in at least 20 years, so I don't know if his stuff would impress me like it did when I was a young freewheeling punk with an attitude and in constant search of "the meaning of it all." What I remember liking was the enthusiasm and sense of exploration in Kerouac's prose. Sometimes the rhythm and free association in his rants reminded me of one of Coltrane's sax solos. If I went back and read the same passages with my middle-aged eye, I might see only the glaring wrong notes.

I believe that the seeking and the breaking of new ground was what that generation of poets, novelists and musicians was all about. And when you tear down the barriers, the attempt to bring new order to the resulting chaos is often unsuccessful, sometimes laughable, but usually entertaining. The works they did should certainly never be given the status of cultural icons, since these guys were the foremost among iconoclasts themselves.

I don't want to be the one to tell LEJ; we depend on you to keep us in a variety of flavors, etc. Tough luck with the van guy! Duane's in traffic every day & it's about to drive him over the edge, literally! Please stay w/ us, Roger; we need you!

Neil, I'd love to sit a minute & have someone wait on me. You guys are all so kind! Yes, cream & sugar, please. That's my 3rd cup this morning, though. Gotta stop before I get jittery.

bbc, a large one , quick, no deliveries today, the tanker got rearended by a white van, then there were the floods in the UK, the boss can't understand why my delivery route keeps changing and it looks like the Tavern might move again soon. Plus Rick's set an entrance exam. I'm going to give up this life, go to S.America and learn the tiple or go south and blow up a possum or go to Oz and get the digeridoo players to teach me circular breathing on the kazoo.
I used to think Mr Rick ["I though I told you never to sing that (or anything), Roger"] and I had similar tastes: music, humour, now I find out he's a trekker! Gimme another, I'm gettin' maudlin.

Nightcaps for kat & cat, unless you'd rather have this morning's made-to-order omelettes. We have any topping you can think of! Just order 'em up! It was almost forty years ago that I read On the Road and I didn't see too much to it--just a bunch of blather by some guy who'd found the world in his navel although he had to keep dusting the lint from it to see clearly enough to remember where the orgone collector was so he could find his friend with the wine and doobies--which helped to clarify the images projected by his goddamned umbilicus a little bit, so it wouldn't look so much like just some twisted flesh down there below his nipples and just at the top of the line of pubic hair rising from his crotch--which was what he really wanted to contemplate, which he knew was closer to the source of all secrets than a vestigial nutritional conduit which had lots of meaning when his mother was eating for two but which had lost it when it got cut and tied off, the only concern after that being whether it would be an inny or an outy but Burroughs obsessed about it when he should have given a bit more thought to the holes he kept poking into the veins at his elbows for the sustenance offered by his new mother the eyedropper--no, I couldn't see much there when behind in San Francisco were--lumped into the same generation--Ferlinghetti and Ginsberg and Corso and Rexroth and a bunch of others just as alienated from the "you in your goddamned Brooks Brothers suit, you son of a bitch" types who had--after all--killed Dylan Thomas but somehow found lots to think about without twisting into a lotus with fingers and thumbs formina a triangle framing their goddamned belly buttons--but reading Kerouak as projected by Neil and Leej makes me think maybe I missed something, so maybe I'll give The Subterranians another chance.

LEJ, I don't normally get clouded up meself but that last italicized passage.....gets you right where you live...or die. Damn, the last thing you need around here is a weepy drunk, wouldn't you think...what with the ghosts, jello pit, velcro wall (and concomitant activities all of dubious redeeming social value, but fun nevertheless)... and especially when you go mentioning the likes of absinthe...when people say your bar is well stocked, they really mean well stocked...hope you don't advertise that too loudly, though...probably wouldn't sit well with the boys down at the BATF - they're probably looking for just one more excuse so they can pull the license on this place anyway, as if all the above reasons weren't enough. I don't have words (for once) to express my gratitude at your offer ...I am honored and accept your gift with deep and humble reverence. Makes me feel a little guilty too because now I feel obligated to settle my bar bill. Could I pay in magic mushrooms? I'll have be a little surreptitious around Burroughs with this absinthe, though - he'd want a drop or two and it wouldn't mix well with the other medications he's taking...by the way, he says the cannon is a nice touch and where'd you get it? He'd like one for himself. bbc, there's something to be said for getting drunk before noon, and seems as though there is a traditional (fiddle?) tune to bolster my argument, called "Whiskey Before Breakfast." I appreciate your concern all the same....maybe next time I'll take you up on the coffee first, hold the roll and croissant, thank you. The tomato juice sounds good, with a dose of pantothentic acid on the side...supposed to counteract the deleterious effects of alcohol, or so I'm told... And I poked that jelly donut because I didn't like the expletive it hurled at me. If the donuts don't have anything nice to say at that time of the morning, they shouldn't say anything at all. The mother ship is waiting for me now....one for the road and then I'll be gone, if I'm not too far gone already.

I've been meaning to mention that Bill left us some good English tea. It's available, w/ the coffee, every morning 'til 11 am, any time zone--free at the bar, help yourselves! We also have a full selection of herbal & decaffeinated teas & coffee, to suit every taste. This morning, we have jelly doughnuts & cinnamon crullers. Hey, Neil! Tonight it's two for one on all your drink requests whenever the Broncos score. And stand away from the muzzle of the cannon, cause I'll be firing it to celebrate each touchdown. There's no shot in it, but the muzzle blast from the powder will give you double-vision and ringing of the ears.

And it was like Cassady to go in search of Death in the same way he came at life, with a manic grin and a heart full of curiosity, leaving no room for fear- tripping across weathered black ties oozing tar in the Mexican sun, kicking sparks from loose gravel, flipping a sledge hammer into the air to count three and catch it by the handle, his powerful frame drained by the drugs and the sleepless nights, fooling himself that his indomitable will and life/spirit could face up to Death and dog her down, calling, daring Death to come at him and wrestle in the desert, in the magnificent Ratlands where the contrasts were clear - good/evil life/death light/shadow energy/inertia. And only Cassady and Death were party to that last episode, and he was found like Thor fallen with his hammer beside him, with his big fists doubled up and bloodied, and a grin clenched in his face, and with his clouded eyes staring straight up into a sky as blue as the edge of eternity.

I have a little liquid left in this bottle of French Absinthe, Neil, and if you want it, this wormwood's for you, pal.

Glad you'll liked the croissants! I've been out for a bit w/ my best girlfriend. Had to catch up. Has Lonesome been taking good care of you? Neil, Neil, I'm not sure I should get you a second, after how that 1st one did cause you to run on! Are you *sure* you're not better off w/ the tomato juice? I could try lime wedges on the side, for variety. Guinness & a straw for Jeri-girl. I'm afraid it BYO-vitamins, here. Sorry. Look for the new photo page soon! kat, we've got plenty of croissant & these aren't a bit fattening. Have the almond *and* the chocolate. They'll do you good! OK, up-to-date! Who can I get something for?

Thanks, bbc, but I DO have a penchant for almond croissants! Last summer, I was really looking forward to going to the Au Bain Pan at the mall in Waterford, CT, when visitng my daughter. Their almond croissants were really good. I was devastated to learn they were no longer in existence. Now, the no carb lifestyle doesn't allow them, BUT there's always cyberfood!!! So let me at 'em, I don't care if it's later in the day! I want my croissant, THEN I'll switch to chocolate!

Neil....keep that stream of consciousness gowing and you'll be bucking Kesey over at his publishers! But, I am inclined to think I'll be the same as Jeri, never quite ready, always one more FUN thing to do!
