Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: MaJoC the Filk Date: 06 Jan 26 - 09:04 AM We've had snow in Oxfordshire for a couple of days. Herself reports that the local news have issued a yellow snow warning. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 03 Jan 26 - 02:43 PM It's been below freezing for days (and nights) in southern New England. This coming week it's supposed to get above freezing, but I will believe that when I see it. Right now we still have several inches of snow on the ground. It's been good weather for thermal underwear. I just went and bought some new pairs of warm socks. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 01 Jan 26 - 02:39 PM Up to 70 here on New Year's Day. I'll take the dogs for a walk and see who else is home and out in their yards for a quick hello. Next week there is a better chance of rain. We got nothing from all of the weather than hit California, it must have drifted way to the NE. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 01 Jan 26 - 09:40 AM Another year, another few inches of dry powdery snow, and a clear blue sky and frigid sunshine. Happy New Year! |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 29 Dec 25 - 04:34 PM Narrowly avoided an ice storm here, the conditions were too warm. But it's going to stay cold all week, as in below freezing. And there's a wind advisory at this moment. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 26 Dec 25 - 01:47 PM I was misinformed. The snow starts this evening and could last for a while. Then there is to be more snow next week. Could accumulate somewhat. We didn't have a white Christmas, but we may have a white New Year's Eve in this part of the Northeast. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 24 Dec 25 - 06:58 PM Looking ahead to the first weekend of January, and my area is supposed to get a lot more snow than usual then. For now I'm just thankful that it isn't icy underfoot. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 23 Dec 25 - 08:03 AM SNowing again, and that means, oddly, that things are a little warmer. Shouldn't be too much snow in this part of New England; Buffalo, NY, however, always gets clobbered with snow. (I have a friend over there.) |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 19 Dec 25 - 01:08 PM Today it was so warm and rainy that the earthworms came out on the sidewalks. Boy, are they in for a shock. It is to start snowing around sundown, with plunging temperatures. I'm worried that everything will ice over. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 17 Dec 25 - 01:34 PM The thaw is finally underway, and in a day or two there will be rain, followed by plunging temperatures. I'm scared everything will freeze into ice. But today the sun is out and the snow is sliding off the roofs,, and the icicles are melting fast. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 13 Dec 25 - 07:24 PM It's just so cold. My thermal underwear is getting a workout in this weather. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 11 Dec 25 - 08:05 PM Here in the Land of Oz we are heading towards a hotter-than-usual summer - bushfires have already started - Hailstorm batters western NSW as homes destroyed in bushfire - a long way from Sydney, but we've also had fires to Sydney's north, again nowhere near me, but a bit closer - around 80km (50 miles) away. Bushfire season has started |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 11 Dec 25 - 07:04 PM Mention has been made of the flooding in Washington State, which is a national story at this point, I have heard of it in New England. Some areas inland in the US have received a foot of snow or more. My part of New England, close to New York, escaped with little more than six inches of snow. Now it is really cold, so the snow will stay for a while. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 07 Dec 25 - 02:11 PM New England is due for really cold weather, with low temperatures close to zero degrees F., tomorrow. |

New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 03 Dec 25 - 11:34 AM If New England is getting snow this week I expect soon to see photos of my brother's grandchildren visiting his home in New Hampshire. He has five acres on a hill with a great sled run for kids of all ages. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: Donuel Date: 03 Dec 25 - 07:18 AM This is an El Niño year, so expect a more severe winter. Have a cache of supplies including food and water in your vehicle. For me it was nuts and chocolate as a precaution. Emergency supplies are up to you. Choose wisely. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 02 Dec 25 - 12:53 PM New England is getting the snowstorm today, snow is falling steadily now and will continue after dark. Max in College Station PA must have felt the impact of the storm. Is anyone else getting snowed on today? |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 30 Nov 25 - 07:23 PM A winter storm is headed this way, it's supposed to bring 5 to 8 inches of snow to New England on Tuesday. And then freezing arctic cold following the storm. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 29 Nov 25 - 10:39 AM It's cold enough for snow, and we got snow on Friday night. Just enough to brush off the windshields, light powdery stuff. THe cold is to stay with us for a while, and get colder, so any precip that falls is likely to be snow or ice. But today is dry and sunny, albeit cold. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: Donuel Date: 02 Nov 25 - 07:11 AM There are many reports of large changes in the greenhouse global warming effects, but here is a very small issue...This is the first year that mosquitoes have flourished in Iceland. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 31 Oct 25 - 09:29 AM What is left of the storm named Melissa is grinding away along the north Atlantic maritimes, and a little bit inland too. My part of New England got some rain, but it could have been worse. We still have a wind advisory. Nothing on the order of an emergency, though. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: Donuel Date: 10 Oct 25 - 02:00 PM Look out for the atmospheric river bomb cyclone whiteout blizzard, followed by the 3rd one hundred year flood in 10 years. Rest assured that climate change is a democrat hoax. Anything else is FEMA's fault or you are of a certain age when the world no longer works for you because all previous agencies and policies no longer exist. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 08 Oct 25 - 05:02 PM keberoxu, enjoy the new season! It sounds nice, but that night is a long way off for this part of the country. It's nice to look back at the top of the thread and see our friend gnu noting the "selfless sacrifice" of the neighbors to the south. Lets hope the border is currently hardened enough to keep the bad winds from blowing across and causing upset. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 08 Oct 25 - 04:22 PM We've had our (brief) rain, and now behind it comes the cold air. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: Donuel Date: 29 Sep 25 - 08:12 AM Ah, the good old days when Wall St was the biggest villain and not cuts to PTFAR which will condemn 25 million of the poorest children of Earth to starvation. That should be the legacy of billionaire Musk and Trump. Fires, floods, and temperatures of 100 F at the Arctic Circle all happened after this old weather thread. Guess who told the UN that global warming is a hoax? |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 28 Sep 25 - 11:34 AM I didn't realize just how long that thread was! I closed it so it hopefully won't go away. Our weather is lovely and last night is the first in which I realized I could use the light blanket with the sheet on my bed, and maybe I don't need the ceiling fan going now. Daytime highs in the low 90s, but for North Texas in September, that is excellent, especially when complemented by nights down to the low 60s. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 28 Sep 25 - 09:25 AM Unusually warm weather for late September, it feels like summer here. But the smells in the air are the scent of autumn, of dead leaves. We could have another weekend or two that is unusually warm, before autumn sets in for good. Mudcat has a birthday coming up in a few days. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 25 Sep 25 - 08:01 AM The old weather thread is big enough to crash, so I'm refreshing this thread. Scheduled to rain all day long. It's dreary, but the rain is much needed; we were getting warnings of fire danger lately around here. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 16 Mar 17 - 01:17 PM It didn't fall; it blew sideways. The most recent winter storm was a high-wind event no matter where you were; it was the precipitation that was variable from spot to spot. But now the bone-dry blue sky is back, a fresh layer of snow covers lawns and roofs, and every paved surface that was not treated and cleared in time, is iced over, with or without snow in the ice. Bee-dubya-ell disclosed on another thread that the naming of winter storms was a marketing ploy by the Weather Channel, or, as original poster Gnu calls them, the Weather Terrorists. That was news to me as well. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 08 Mar 17 - 02:25 PM That bone-dry blue sky is still over head. And I still keep looking up at it as if I expect it to fall with a crash. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 06 Mar 17 - 02:06 PM March came in like a lion last week, and now it is deceptively calm. The wind stopped blowing, the sky is clear and dry. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: keberoxu Date: 05 Mar 17 - 03:59 PM It isn't 16 March, but it is March for all that. And dear Gnu is still talking about the weather, along with the rest of us. In southern New England, the weather is toying with us. One extreme to the other and back. Like sucker punches. The weather is not bad today, but the coldest day of the entire winter season was the day before. So you wear multiple layers and do laundry frequently. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: gnu Date: 01 Oct 10 - 03:26 PM Very wet. But, I am the only chicken in the coop. I shall expect split tomatoes by late tomorrow. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: maeve Date: 01 Oct 10 - 03:20 PM Pouring, driving, persistent, steady, blowing rain. Who'd think chickens would require an invitation to go inside their house and out of the rain? Kind of wet out there, eh. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: gnu Date: 15 Aug 10 - 03:18 PM Well, well, well. Great winter here last year. Mild and short. Early spring. Moderately hot and muggy summer so far. By that, I mean, it's been nasty hot for not ALL that long. But, after the last full moon, the change to a few HOT days and a few okay days has been noted. The clouds have changed to "fall looking" a lot of the time on the northerly winds. About a week ago, the hummingbirds, which have not been around much, have been around and feeding voraciuosly. For about a week, the crows have been screeching en masse before daylight. And, today, there was/is a large flock of blackbirds in my yard. Blackbirds flocked on August 15. Early winter and a bad one coming up? |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: Ebbie Date: 11 Jun 10 - 05:15 PM This is the period of time - between mid-April and the end of June - when Juneau has its driest, brightest weather so it's no surprise that is what we have had for the last few weeks. Lilacs, poppies and sweet rocket are in full bloom and the air is scented and warm. Our temperatures generally range from the upper 40s to the low 70s. Perfect for me- any time ambient air hits 75 and up I have little patience with it. Where I am from, in the Willamette Valley of Oregon, I'm told that it's been a wet chilly spring this year. My brother in Salem told me last week they haven't even put in a garden yet; the ground has been too wet and heavy. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: gnu Date: 11 Jun 10 - 04:55 PM We had a few days of hot but it's been rainy for a few weeks. Almost had frost a couple of days ago. Just turned the ACs on... 32 and sunny and little breeze. My tomatoes love it but I fear for what may come after our early spring. I don't like hot weather. We'll just see what comes with the full moon on the 26th. |

Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: mouldy Date: 24 May 10 - 03:38 AM Ah well...Clear and warm/humid again today. I think it is due to drop about 6 or 7C during the week. I think it's going to cloud up, if the BBC website is to be believed. I am thankful for my electric fan! I always maintain we Brits talk about weather as in "whether" or not it's going to rain! Subject: RE: BS: Weather. New thread as of March 16, 2010 From: Janie Date: 23 May 10 - 09:29 PM I've been living in the northeast Piedmont of North Carolina for 24 years now, and still haven't figured out what is typical weather. Late July and August are pretty much guaranteed to suck with heat and humidity, but little rain. The rest is a crap shoot. Thing is, the same thing has happened back in the Kanawha Valley of West-by-god-Virginia during the quarter century I've been down here. |
