Does anyone know anything about or has anyone heard this Library of Congress recording?
State Farm, Pine Pluff, Arkansas. October 1934
240A5 Lover in the Lone Green Valley ...L of C
Sung by a white man accompanied by Huddie Ledbetter (guitar)
Lead Belly was released from prison in August of the previous year so I presume this was recorded when he was guide and driver to John Lomax on his folk song collection tour of the Southern penitentiaries.
Thanks
Doc John

I have a recording of Alan Lomax singing the song on an album called Folk Song Saturday Night, one of my favorite examples of his singing. Never have heard the L of C recording.

Thanks iancarterb; now I wonder is Alan Lomax the 'unknown white man' bearing in mind the Southern penitentiaries were segregated at the time of recordings. Is the song (I've never come across this title elsewhere) the same as 'Down in the Willow Garden' or of that series?
Thanks
Doc John
